He hasn't taken any "action". He isn't sworn in. That's the point.

But up and coming, I will let you know if he actually does anything.
His words are an action that have disrupted geopolitical relations and those concerns are already having an impact on economies.

So if the mafia threatens to burn your house down if you don't give them money that isn't anything? The stock markets have already reached negatively to Trump rhetoric so it has had an effect and Canada is nervous that the fool pretending to be in charge might actually follow through.
Trump isn't the mafia. A better one would be if your blow hard neighbour who passive aggressively said shit to you over fence said another thing. And after 12 years of it coming to nothing you just looked at him again, shook your head, and went back to cutting the lawn.

The thing is he has done this before - twice to be exact. So if your neighbor lit your house on fire twice and threatened to do it again when he had the chance would you take it seriously? You never did answer my question however was any if these threats good for America or Canada?

Really, how bad was the new Nafta agreement? Answer, it was fine. Beyond that he really didn't pay much attention our way.

Ah the tolerant left...You do realize that without America's protection Canada is screwed right?
LOL, I'm not even on the "left" -- I'm pretty centre of the road. The US can go fuck itself and Americans should stay the hell out of this country. Any Canadian worth his salt doesn't want the fat ugly bastards here. If you want to lick America's ass, then fuck off and go live there, Orifice.

Yes, we should strengthen our army greatly.
A country like Israel with 1/4 population has a stronger and a bigger army than us.
Our feminist Prime Minister doesn't view defence as a priority.

When the Conservatives get in and open the books so to speak, it will be a disaster.

Best thing to do is to placate Trump for appearance purposes.

The real threat to the US is China and they know it.

Just remember Trump has the foreign policy knowledge of a drunk at the local bar.
Under his watch China expanded dramatically in Africa and Latin America (infrastructure projects) and squashed democracy in Hong Kong.
He fails to realise what soft power is and how the USA benefitted enormously from programs like peace corps etc. Anywhere the Chinese go they are arrogant and dismissive of the population and hated.
So he's just talking out of his arse like the way faux tough guys do. Yet, you can sane-wash it that if he really considers it dealing with China in third world places then that's actually good.
However, talking about it in an arrogant and dismissive way lowers the USA to the level of China, thus once again unilaterally forfeiting the big advantage the USA has (soft power) over China.

I'm not talking about Trump renaming NAFTA and claiming it as an accomplishment. I was talking about the illegal tariffs he put on Canadian aluminum and steel which really hurt canadian and American manufacturers and consumers. What is the point of a free trade agreement if you reneg, claiming national security ? Using illegal tariffs as a way to bully your biggest ally is not sound policy and any country thinking of or with existing agreements with the US is certainly feeling nervous.

Ok, and for decades softwood has done the same. Meanwhile we have restrictions on various food stuffs.

Of course it isn't sound policy. But it was a blip.

The stock market is a gambling operation. And it will reset, again.
So we shouldn't listen to what Trump says because it's just talk but we also shouldn't look at the results of his decisions? Trump's trade protectionism and threats have caused investors to lose money.

We don't have much in the way of threats while Israel's continued existence depends on the army.

I'd prefer we spend more on cyber security than on more tanks.

Isn't that even worse?

I love how fluid your arguments are.
It means there are going to be people on their side hurt by tariffs, and will demand exemptions. To the point it won't be an issue.

And yes, just hold your stocks for now, it's going to be a rough 4 years.
