This place is literally 10x better than Swiss Chalet. There's literally no comparison, Swiss chalet fucking sucks, it's plain and tasteless.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while.

We used to have 'em decades ago. Guess they couldn't cut it and were pushed out by Swiss Chalet.

They use to franchise in the GTA, the nearest one now is in Kingston or Ottawa. I will agree that St. Hubert BBQ is much better than Swiss Chalet. Another Quebec franchise is even better than St. Hubert. It is Aux Coq ( translation : At the Roosters place or The rooster. ) Swiss Chalet is all dried out, St. Hubert BBQ has more taste and is much more plump. Aux Coq is even better.

After living in Montreal for a few years its hard for me to eat Swiss chalet any more. It really tastes like crap compared to St Hubert's.

Swiss chalet fries are soggy and plain. The chicken is dry. The gravy sucks.

I went back to Montreal for a week this summer and ate St Hubert's almost every day for lunch. Gobbled that shit down, couldn't get enough.

At one point, Harvey's teamed up with Swiss Chalet and were selling chicken at the same counters. Things did not work out well. I use to go to the Harvey's counters at the Home Depot because they would make the burgers hot from the grill, but they killed all the Harvey's counters and put Subways counters in their place. The reason Harvey's is not doing well is because they give you a pre cooked burger that has been lightly warmed up when people order their food.

There used to be St. Huberts in the GTA. I remember one on Queensway and Eastmall. The building is still there and looks just like St Hubert, only now it's called "The Grill" or something like that. No longer St Hubert.

They tried to crack into the Toronto market, but I guess it didn't pan out for them.

I find their chicken and Swiss Chalet chicken to be pretty much the same. When SC is done well, it's done well. The only problem I've encountered with SC is that it varies A LOT. It varies by the time of day, and it varies by location. Wrong time of day, (off hours) and your chicken will be dried out, burnt, and cold (there's combination).

St Hubert's menu offers up a lot of superior choices compared to Swiss Chalet (like various types of grilled chicken) and there, St. Hubert wins hands down.

So yes, I would agree that St Hubert is the superior restaurant.

But if all you want is a quarter white, then they are the same (but Swiss Chalet can vary to your detriment.)

It's called "The Q". Other than the lack of a sign, it's still a St. Hubert. Same owner from when it was a St. Hubert and the same menu, although I think with even more choice. They even have the same dessert menu as St. Hubert.

A little fancy bookkeeping and they are open again. I think I saw the Licks down the street open as well

I guess he did not want to pay franchise fees and continued without the corporate logo.

BTW - The reataurant stated in 1950 and franchised hundreds of restaurant, the owners kids. ( in their 50s and 60s ) live a life of leisure and have little to do with the restaurant operations or their factory that produces grocery store products under the same name. Years ago the daughter became involved with a con-man that took them for millions.

See the trivia thread for the St. Hubert BBQ trivia question.
