After which there were none for the next three elections.
You know, in case someone was silly enough to think that there "always" were debates.
if there was ever a time for a debate it is now

but you win as always

I said there would most likely be a debate now.
In an election this close, you can't afford to lose the few marginal voters who think debates are important and it is an established norm in the current environment.

Pffft…Go re-watch Joe’s State of the Union speech.
🔥🔥🔥
Are you comparing a scripted speech to a debate? 😕

I actually think President Biden is doing great, but we do realize he is generally in controlled situations. I worry for him. The pace of the campaign. The possible use of energy supplements. Win or lose, I suspect he might collapse within a year or two after the election and step away from vigorous public life one way or another.

Even the networks do that. They do not invite everyone to debate.
They invited Vivek. Didn't that make you happy?

Vivek now seems to have found a home in the Trump campaign.

Be careful what you wish for…Sleepy Don can’t even stay awake during his own trial!
I don't want think you want to compare jet miles between the two candidates. Trump ran down to Florida this weekend for a big fundraiser and Republican conference.

A few liberals here live in the past where they think big donors favor the Republicans. It appears that all Biden has to step out onto the the White House balcony, wave and it rains Benjamins. We also know Biden has an ATM machine in California. Jill knows his PIN too.

I still think there is a good chance Trump dodges their being a debate because his team doesn't trust him not to implode in that kind of scenario, but convincing Trump not to humiliate himself is hard.
And, to be fair, there is a good chance he won't humiliate himself because if they can negotiate the right terms of debate, it will go in Trump's favor for what he wants to do - yell shit out and "look dominant".
First, I think debates in our current era don't have winners. They could be lost (not won). Nixon might have lost the 1960 debate because of his naivete about appearance on television. Gerald Ford didn't do himself any favors with his lax comment on Poland's sovereignty.

You might say Reagan won the 1984 debate with Mondale, but that was a landslide and it likely was going to be all along. However in a similar vein, Biden can demonstrate vitality and perhaps help his campaign. I just don't think it would turn the election, but who knows.

Lastly, I think Trump has done relatively fine in past Presidential debates. Nothing that turned the election one way or another. I can see where you and others might want to believe what you don't like to hear from is Trump is crazy. When he is prepared and not being interpreted by media commentators he does just fine for general audiences.

Trump is not raising money for his reelection.
Trump uses campaign donations to pay his lawyers, over 50 million of campaign funds have been paid to his lawyers so far.

Yeah…that’s the other side of it. Trump would certainly make an issue of it.

Nonetheless, debating an opponent who is under indictment for trying to overthrow the government does seem kinda crazy on the face of it.
two thoughts
1. right or wrong under the American justice system you are innocent until proven guilty
2. right or wrong, in a debate, sleepy Joe can hammer away on Trumps character, provided sleepy Joe can stay awake during the telecast

Do you know what $50 million dollars buys in a U.S. Presidential election?

No offense, but your comments generally seem to be flippant. It would appear we already have a few members who can be relied on that. They can even source attention-seeking Twitterati.

I'm not sure KB cares what the majority of American voters think unless they are twelve people selected from a progressive bastion.

Did I miss the memo where the Dems tried everything they could to prevent Trump from running, to now being afraid to let Biden debate him?

I don't follow your point. Perhaps you might try writing it down on a notepad and reading it back before posting.

It's fairly straightforward if you review everything from the point he said he would run for the upcoming election to the part about Biden debating him or not.
