why are left doors locked in entrance ways

Back in my teens, I worked in a retail store with a door buzzer that let you know when someone came in. This only worked on the side of the door that latched into the other door. If the door that latches into the floor and ceiling was opened instead, the buzzer didn't sound. Thus, we left that side locked. In any other situation, I go with laziness.

Automatic doors are dictated by code in certain circumstances.

They are about $1500 to 2000 each.

Truth is this:
I only notice it happens here in Canada. Never seen it in Europe or the USA.

I have experienced this in the US, like Ridgeman I mean I have literally 'run into it.' Not sure I have in Europe but I have unfortunately walked into a few doors in US cities and I suspect there are even a few board members that could confirm that. :embarassed:
