Who should the Buffalo Bills hire as head coach and top assistants?

The way things shape up for now, the Bills have interviews with Mike Sherman and Dick Jauron who were head coaches before. If there are no better candidates, I prefer Sherman to be head coach and Jauron to become defensive coordinator. :) Sherman has a lot of playoff experience. His specialty is in offense. If Jauron is willing to become defensive coordinator by virtue of his strength as a defensive mind, the two will complement each other. Jim Haslett the fired New Orleans coach should also be a good candidate for an offense coordinator job. But it is not clear that Jauron and Haslett will accept coordinator jobs when they are head coach material. Who else do you think are good prospects to coach the Bills as head coach and coordinators, that is, to bring the Bills back to playoffs as soon as possible?

I have to admit, I nearly drove my car off the road in shock when I heard Dick Jauron was a candidate to be head coach of ANY team, much less the Bills.
Personally, I wouldn't hire any of these three, but if I was going to pick one, then without a doubt Sherman would be the guy. What has Haslett done? The Saints were chronic underacheivers and Jauron was a disaster in both Chicago and in Detroit, albeit as Lions interim.
I would go with a young up and coming head coach prospect who was a gem in many teams' eyes until the Bears loss to Carolina and that is their defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. The defense did not look very good in that game, but was #1 in the League all year, and given their youth, I don't think anyone can be that critical.
I would make my offensive coordinator Ken Zampese of the Bengals who came in and helped Jon Kitna have his best year in Zampese's first season, and then helped Carson Palmer develop into a superstar.
Defensive coordinator could be Rivera's old buddy and teammate Mike Singletary, assistant and linebackers coach of the 49ers. Because of this young staff, I'd bring in an associate coach with previous experience as a head coach, such as Dom Capers now that he's available or Ray Rhodes if I could get him from Seattle. Have a vet help guide the young guys.
I just hate seeing the same recycled coaches.
I think Mularkey was the wrong guy, and I don't think Gregg Williams was ready at that particular time. They should've hired Marvin Lewis instead of Williams and Charlie Weiss instead of Mularkey. They'd better not make the same mistake this year.

It's The Bills...

Who gives a shit?

Bills fans gotta learn that they live in a C-D market and cannot support a winning franchise, ever.

Heart and deep frying don't pay the Bills and Barfalo ain't GBay.

Best thing for the franchise is Toronto.

Get over the past and work for a future that can afford and rename the team.

How about Bill Walsh? He's about the same age as Levy&Wilson.

Interesting insight!!! In a perfect world, the Bills should be able to dish out major money and get a Super Bowl calibre head coach such as Bill Belichick. In reality, old man Wilson probably is not willing to dig deep in his pocket for a fool proof coach. Given the constraints and what they have, Mike Sherman is a playoff calibre head coach that they can afford. As for Dick Jauron, the reason he may be a favorite is because of his good relations with Marv Levy, who is now in charge of football operations and that Levy likes him a lot. I tend to agree that Jauron is not a good head coach candidate for the Bills. But as a coordinator one never knows. As for Haslett, I also agree that he is a below average head coach thus far. But as defense coordinator, you never know. So we shall see how things go and hope for better candidates to pop up.

After the Bills went through two promising coordinators (Greg Williams and Mike Mularkey) turned failed head coaches, it is unlikely that they will pick another budding coordinator for their head coach this time.

This will never happen or at least not anytime soon......The CFL is owned by the NFL for those who dont know, and as long is there is CFL in Canada NFL is not allowed in.

I do not believe even for a second that the Bills are serious about James Lofton as their head coach. Lofton, the Hall of Fame receiver, is currently the wide receivers coach with the San Diego Chargers. No matter how good he is as a coach for wide receivers, I do not believe he has enough over all knowledge, skills, and talent to be a playoff calibre head coach. The Bills interviewed him more for window dressing, namely to fulfill the NFL requirement of interviewing at least one minority candidate. Too bad!!!

So you're saying you know James Lofton and he just can't coach? The Bills could do much worse. But I agree that I would want someone with some experrience (not in losing).

Look, James Lofton was a wide receiver in his playing days and I am sure he is one fine wide receivers coach now. What I am saying in my previous post is he is not a playoff calibre NFL head coach. For that matter, he was never and is not even a NFL head coach. Common sense tells me, he will not be picked as the Bills' head coach this time, unless if the golden boys (Wilson and Levy) suddenly go bonkers. In that case, anything goes. I am not saying that James Lofton will never be a fine NFL head coach. He may very well be a good one in the future but that is not the issue here.

Seriously Though...

Big Mac as Head Coach

Filet o' Fish as Defensive Coordinator

Six Pack McNuggets as Offensive Coordinator

It doesn't really matter, even if they could get Quarter Pounder with Cheese to coach, the team would still suck.

Best solution, move.

The Golden Boys Disagree Who Should Be Bills' Head Coach!!!

According to this source, Levy wants Dick Jauron as head coach and Wilson wants Mike Sherman for Bills' head coach. I shall side with Wilson on this one. The reason is simple, of all the available head coach candidates the Bills have so far, Sherman gives them the best chance to be a winning team and go to playoffs, perhaps as early as next two years. :)

Dom Capers?
Dom Capers is a good man but unfortunately his coaching records with the Houston Texans really sinks his stock. I doubt that he will be picked by the Bills to be Head coach.

To the golden boys (Wilson & Levy): Why pick the losers when you can have the winners this time around?
