Well, I blew and laid a guy from Terb once and he called me daddy's little girl when he came......I always thought he was a pedophile trying to express his uncontrollable fantasies through escorts. I never saw him again.... Too sickening to the mind.

I don't believe I've seen that information here. Please supply it.
Happy to:

Notwithstanding the media hysteria over sex abuse in the Catholic Church, priests abuse at a rate far lower than that of other males. While even one case of abuse is too many, approximately only 4% of all active priests between 1950 and 2002 were even accused of abuse – a rate far lower than that of other males in the general population.
Newsweek magazine, April 7, 2010:
"ased on the surveys and studies conducted by different denominations over the past 30 years, experts who study child abuse say they see little reason to conclude that sexual abuse is mostly a Catholic issue. 'We don't see the Catholic Church as a hotbed of this or a place that has a bigger problem than anyone else,' said Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children …
"Experts disagree on the rate of sexual abuse among the general American male population, but Allen says a conservative estimate is one in 10. Margaret Leland Smith, a researcher at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, says her review of the numbers indicates it’s closer to one in 5 …
"Since the mid-1980s, insurance companies have offered sexual misconduct coverage as a rider on liability insurance, and their own studies indicate that Catholic churches are not higher risk than other congregations … It's been that way for decades."
USA Today, June 6, 2010:
"If anyone believes that priests offend at a higher rate than teachers or non-celibate clergy, then they should produce the evidence on which they are basing that conclusion. I know of none. Saying 'everybody knows' does not constitute scientific methodology."
– Dr. Philip Jenkins, Pennsylvania State University.

A 2004 U.S. Department of Education report reported that "the most accurate data available" reveals that "nearly 9.6 percent of [public school] students are targets of educator sexual misconduct sometime during their school career."
This result prompted Hofstra University's Dr. Charol Shakeshaft, the author of the study, to opine in 2006, "[T]hink the Catholic Church has a problem? The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests."
A Meanwhile, that same 2004 report cited an important study from the mid-1990s:
"In an early [1994] study of 225 cases of educator sexual abuse in New York, all of the accused had admitted to sexual abuse of a student but none of the abusers was reported to authorities."
That is an important and alarming fact:
Number of abusive educators: 225
Number reported by school officials to police: 0
http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/12/01/the-truth-about-priests/

The revelation that four out of every 100 priests were leading double lives is hardly reassuring. And one victim—let alone 10,667—is one victim too many. But if nothing else, the John Jay study does offer compelling proof that priests, on average, don’t seem to be any more dangerous than the people sitting in their pews.

Nobody knows for sure how often Boy Scout leaders or hockey coaches or daycare workers abuse the children under their watch. Headlines are the only indication. But consider this stat: according to the most reliable figures, 13 per cent of men and up to 40 per cent of women say they were sexually abused as children. The huge majority of those crimes occur inside the home—and the culprit is usually a relative, not the local priest. “We don’t know what the prevalence rate is for the general population, but it has to be at least double what it is for priests,” Plante says. “We can estimate it backwards through the lens of the victim.”

1. Catholic clergy aren't more likely to abuse children than other clergy or men in general.

According to the best available data (which is pretty good mostly coming from a comprehensive report by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2004 as well as several other studies), 4% of Catholic priests in the USA sexually victimized minors during the past half century. No evidence has been published at this time that states that this number is higher than clergy from other religious traditions. The 4% figure appears lower than school teachers during the same time frame and certainly less than offenders in the general population of men. Research states that over 20% of American women and about 15% of American men were sexually violated when they were children by an adult. Sexual victimization is tragically fairly common in the general population but luckily these numbers have been dropping in recent years.
5. Almost all of clergy sexual abuse cases in the Catholic Church that we hear about in the news are from decades ago (usually the 1960's and 70's).

Although these stories are horrific to hear, they are almost never about incidents that occurred since the late 1980's. Incidents of abuse in the past 20 to 25 years are quite rare compared to incidents during the 60's and 70's. This is also true for other groups such as school teachers. Incidents since the 2002 crisis in the USA unfolded are especially rare. Most of the more recent cases are from international priests who were both born and formed (i.e., trained and ordained) overseas who generally didn't go through the screening and training process that local men go through. Some argue that more recent victims (i.e., since the mid 1980's) just haven't come forward yet. Perhaps that is true but thus far no published data supports this theory.

“There is no plausible evidence that Catholic priests are gangs of sexual predators, as they are being portrayed,” said Pennsylvania State University Prof. Philip Jenkins, eminent religion and history scholar, and a non-Catholic who’s studied the church’s abuse problems for 20 years.

http://skeptics.stackexchange.com/q...-sexual-abuse-of-children-by-catholic-priests

The most exhaustive analysis on this question was performed by Philip Jenkins in his book Pedophiles and Priests: Anatomy of a Contemporary Crisis. Jenkins conclusions, in a nutshell, is that Catholic priests do not commit sexual abuse against minors at a rate higher than other faiths or occupations, and in fact may have rates of sexual abuse less than that of many or most other professions, that the incidence of "pedophilia", i.e., sexual relations with pre-pubescent child, as compared with "ebophilia," sexual relations with post-adolescent teenagers, is extremely small, and that the popular perception of pedophilia and Catholic priests owes much to deeply imbedded historical, American anti-Catholic prejudice and a confluence of sociological factors, including the breakdown of Catholicism as a key identity of Catholics and the fact that because of its structure, the Catholic Church has "deep pockets" that make it an attractive "target" for suits.

Jenkins' study was performed in the late '90s, but its conclusions have held up over time. The recent John Jay College Report on the Causes and Context of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Catholic Priests in the United States, 1950 - 2010, published in May of 2011, confirms that the number of priests accused of child abuse was around 4% of the total number of priests, that the number of priests who were true pedophiles was around 5% of priests acccused of child abuse, and that the incidence of child abuse peaked around 1970 and has fallen since that time. [One should also be aware that not all "child abuse" allegations involve allegations of physical impropriety.]

As a victim of a pedophile back in the 60's I came forward 9 years ago and laid charges went court etc. This guy had prior convictions for sex related crimes dating back 45 years. What did he get ?18 months suspended!

The law is a joke! Any pedophile should get LIFE! Their life goes on while victims like me carry it for a lifetime!

Sick bastards!

Your story is a terrible example and I can only imagine the horror of the experience, but the good news is that it doesn't always end that way. As I said earlier, life in prison should be the default setting not the exception.

Was the case in Ontario? If so that sounds awfully light? Was he still serving prior sentences? Was there a trial or was it a plea?

Sorry to hear about your personal experience. Here are a couple of questions for you. Should we even be discussing such a sensitive, horrible and painful subject or should we just sweep it under the rug? Should the media stop reporting stories of pedos being busted?

Suspended means he is free to go but if he is arrested for a similar act he goes to jail to serve the full sentence so I was told. A lot had to do with his age 75 at the time of the trial.
You NEVER overcome this. I live with the nightmares, depression etc everyday since 1966.I carry the scars both mental and physical to this day.
Back then being a young kid I was not believed as this guy was well know in the community married with kids as MANY are.

My uncle who was a Cop at the time told my parents not to come forward as it would go bad for me.(He had friends in high places and was very wealthy)

It wasn't until 2002 that I came forward after enduring all the media hype on the Catholic Priests, Martin Kruze of the Maple Leaf Gardens scandal who took his own life and others I decided I has to do it.

Was it hard? Yes! I had to relive it all over again in making a statement to the Police the Crown Atty and in Court.
I sometimes wonder if it was all worth it. The sleepless nights nightmares flashbacks etc I endured .

The local Sexual Assault Center would NOT offer help as it was for FEMALE victims only.
I did get help at various other agencies which did help as well as the Victims Services at the Crowns Office.

Would I come forward again? Yes!
There is a line in M.A.S.H Don't let the bastard win!
Most men don't come forward as the feel deep shame, embarrassment afraid of being gay and much more.
These perverts who abuse young children should be dealt with severely and not HIDE behind the Church etc.

Am I bitter yes but I am living my life as best I can now, flashbacks nightmares are part of my life.

Spankingman, making the decision to come forward must have been horrific. Going thru the court case was probably worse.
I hope that you are able to find some peace in your life one day.

Thank you again for sharing your story. Hopefully your actions helped to prevent others from getting abused.
