Actually he said, "We do not speak of it." Which was a way for the writers to acknowledge the difference without presenting an explaination. The real reason obviously was 60s budgets were too small.

I would have to vote for TNG as my fav followed by DS9 and then the original. TNG had the right mix of actors excluding Riker. Patrick Stewart is a phenomenal actor. Warf and Data provided some very comical moments to spice things up, and the woman....oh yeah...the woman!

Hey does anyone remember when Gates McFadden(aka Beverly Crusher) took a leave of absence for a season or two? Do you remember that older woman which for the life of me I can't remember her name...She was in the original series and boy, she was one fine looking woman in her early years!

We should start another poll: Which Star Trek actress would you most like to boink??? Here are the candidates, someone start it,

1. T'Pol
2. Seven of Nine
3. Beverly Crusher
4. Deanna Troy
5. Tasha Yar
6. The Klingon in Voyager (Name???)
7. The mother of of Warf's child Alexander (Name???)
8. Lursa and Baytor as a duo (Hey....would ya?)
9. Picard's fling with that sexy archaeologist (I'm forgetting names today!)

... and the "network goons" took a dim view of anything too "alien" being on the series. When they first saw Spock's ears, they went nuts. I'm not sure if the vision of what a Klingon should be had not yet matured or had to be watered down.

Star Trek

The original was still the best because it was the first. Rarely if ever do sequels out do the originals. TNG had better acting even though Picard was a bit stiff, #1 is a dreadful actor, Data was the best IMHO, Troi was eye candy, they missed Wesley Crusher, Gordy was above average.

The original had more compelling episodes especially the one with Gem the Empath, the one where McCoy is dying and wants to stay on that planet like ship, the doomsday ship, the one where the spheres take over the crews body while they build replacements, the 2 part pilot, Kahn, the duel in space with the enemy ship. TNG and the ones following had no episodes that compared to these IMHO. DS9 was awful, Voyager was worse yet and I find this season of Enterprise making a comeback. My fav TNG episode was the 2+ parter when the Borg attack earth but the ending was a HUGE disappointment.

I suspect TNG is winning is becuase a lot of the posters don't remember the original when it was first broadcast.

Diana Muldaur played Dr. Katherine Pulaski in season two of TNG. Not sure why Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher) wasn't there for year two...

As for the poll, Tasha Yar in a heartbeat... :)

...and if I couldn't get Tasha Yar, my second choice would be one that isn't listed -- Dr. Leah Brahms, played by Susan Gibney.
(Trivia note: Susan Gibney was the first choice for Captain Kathryn Janeway on Voyager, before Geneviève Bujold and ultimately Kate Mulgrew.)

I heard that she was fired and due to most likely fan support was brought back in season 3. Also the fact that none of the stars liked Diana Muldaur (Mulder) she was a major Bitch to work with.

On a cold rock near Antarctica
1) The original series. I loved that Kirk got all that alien nookie! Mudd's women were hot, as was Susan Oliver as the green Orion slave girl in 'The Menagerie' and Yvonne Craig as an inmate in the episode on the asylum planet.
2) DS9. Great story arc the last couple of years, and Avery Brooks rocked. It was fun watching his son grow, too. I too have a short hair thing and Nezri Dax was smokin'!! The hottest short-haired woman on TV since O'Connell on 'Northern Exposure'.
3) TNG. Just average in the ST pantheon.
4) Enterprise. A slow start, but improving. They do need to ditch that ickly theme song though.
5) Voyager. This one just seemed like 'Gilligan's Island' in space, with the crew almost getting home, but not making it because Janeway stumbled across some ethical dillemma.

Are you on glue? In DS9, you had an eventual universe-spanning, genocidal mega-war that encompassed everyone and wiped out scores of ships, planets, and people, as well as series regulars. It was so heavy on darkness and tragedy....it was sick, but in a good way! Sure, the first couple seasons blew but it really got bloody and nihilistic in the end.

Regardless, I don't see how the original series could possibly *not* be kinder or gentler than DS9.

Everything since DS9 has been recycled crap, IMHO.

Well said. This series had hands down THE BEST fighting scenes ever. But fighting aside, one of my favourite episodes has to be the Klingon wedding of Dax and Worf. Oh, yeah, there's that one with the lesbian kiss scene with Dax too...
