I will be receiving a guest over summer months and since I take outcalls only (for legal reasons), I started looking into Hotwire as suggested in TV ads as an economic way of booking hotels.
I started booking an average 4 star hotel for June 20 for one person and initially the price quoted was $84, which although more expensive than I thought (my impression was something about $60 to $80) and then I noticed in small letters another charge of $16 for what they call Tax recovery and fees, and then another sentence below in small and light hard to see letters that the charges are on US dollars. So what I thought was going to be an economical way of booking a room (about $60 to $80) ended up costing me in excess of $110 for one night
.
Was I too optimistic in my impression of the economical way of booking a room by Hotwire, or I am mis-reading the prices. Because if I book the room myself, it will cost me about the same except that I don't have to book in advance and I decide exactly which hotel to book. I don't consider $110+ for one night, one room exactly as economical (I must acknowledge I don't have experience with booking hotels).
