Go to your local high school and ask the shop teacher to help you for a couple bucks in his pocket.

There must be a pro place I can go that has got a darn jig saw to make a few cuts
Sure, there are lots of custom carpentry shops around. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Lowes and Home Depot only have equipment and trained staff for rough cutting lumber and plywood, not fine cutting. They won't even guarantee the accuracy of rough cuts they will do.

Agree, cheapest is DIY, next is 'Love Thy Neighbor/Family Member Who Knows Carpentry and Is Willing to Help You', next is the local shop teacher. After that, costs will spike.

Been there. Done that.

Good Luck!

the obvious places like rona and lowes only do straight cuts

would this work?

1. Sawing horses

2 handsaw for rough cut

4 coping saw for smoother work

it is going to be covered in cement so it does not have to be perfect

I seem to recall an oval can be created by using two nails set in the center line of the long dim of the oval - mathematically an ellipse. Tie a string to both nails. Then slide a pencil out until the string is taught. Trace on wood. Adjust nail separation and string length to account for the size of oval you want.

Then do trial adjustments to lengthen the string to account for size of the router barrel, and use a router with a cutter set to just thickess of plywood.
The the string passing on the far side of the barrel to cut the plywood to size.

With both the pencil and router, untangle the string when you pass the line the two nails project.

Thanks for oval info. I looked it up. Cool idea

Then the obvious dawned on me. I am going to cover project in cement and make it part of an art rock garden I am working on, so why use wood? I bought some wall board, very cheap,
and you can cut it with utility knife, very easy.

Freakin obvious but my mind was thinking wood

It is not as hard as people think. I was intimated when I did a cut for my fire pit at the trailer. Granted it didn’t have to be perfect but it was quite easy to do the actual cutting. It was the measuring and drawing that was the more important part of it all in my opinion.

Are you using the wallboard (I presume you mean gypsum drywall?) just as a form for the concrete? Or are you needing the board to be structural?

The gypsum drywall has no structural integrity and also will break down if you soak it in water.

If you want to use plywood, there are lots of CNC Router service providers in the GTA on kijiji. Probably cost under $50 for the layout and cut.

thx for pointing that out about water on gypsum so I will use quick drying
cement, a light layer at first then add on when cement dries,
should work as the cement will be the integrity, not the gypsum, but you can buy gypsum
drywall covered in light cement

I also need cement balls so I am going to cover soccer balls in cement
and that works as I experimented. Let it dry then add some more until thickness
is right. I am going to use a colouring cement agent and make it black cement

The rock garden ground will be covered in black peebles and I will make designs
out of white pebbles, that can be easily carved with a carving tool, painted
flourescent within the black peebles so it will glow although I do not expect
much glow. Maybe a few hours of dim glow after the sun goes down.

It is a fun creative project but if it looks goofy then I tear it down as the
garden will be abstract. I will buy a cover for the ground to stop weeds

I live in an outdoor co op so I will also make art boxes and hang them around
the co op that people can put their art in. Maybe I can buy some cheap used
bird houses for the art boxes and get a children art class to paint them instead
of building them from scratch.

Any ideas about building art boxes? One side is open for viewing and covered in plexiglass
