Allegro in Mississauga might fit your bill. Superb wine list, good upscale Italian food, and they have Kobe beef if that is your preference. Regardless enjoy your date.
Via Allegro is nice - just a bit out of the way. (I think he was looking downtown.) http://www.viaallegroristorante.com/great bear said:Allegro in Mississauga might fit your bill. Rodman said:You are going to have a hard time having 3 courses with wine in a "dress up" downtown restaurant for $150. The only ones I can think of are Reds Bistro - they have a good selection of wine by the glass, and Canyon Creek Chop House which also has a fixed price menu which might meet your budget. Google them and check out the menus.
Don't forget to post a review afterwards (of the restaurant, of course).Shyguy* said:I have a hot date on a weeknight in downtown Toronto. I'm from out of town. She mentioned restaurants like Splendido, Rain, The Fifth, Canoe, and Avalon. I looked at some of these menus and for a 3 course meal with tip, I'm thinking $200 to $300
Yes I'm looking for a dress up dinner, but for more around the $100 - $150 price range including appetizer, main, dessert and wine for the two of us. I don't think she's the kind who likes dutch treat.
Is there such thing in downtown TO? Can anyone recommend a place?
The thing is Randy, that if she never wants to see me again after I footed the bill, then fuck her. You are right, Baton Rouge is nothing like some of these other places, but if a woman "needs" to go to one of these places, then I don't need her. The OPs date sounds like a goldigger. Heck, I've taken a girl to Lick's and gotten lucky afterwards. The point is you shouldn't have to spend so much on a first date to impress a chick. A movie and drinks should suffice. Women who aren't "impressed" can go elsewhere!RandyAndy2 said:Only take her to Baton Rouge if you never want to see her again. The place is horrible. Their jambalaya penne is, seriously, penne with tomato paste and weiners. Service is mediocre. Is my dislike for the "restaurant" coming through?
A decent Japanese place in your price range is Yamato, located in Yorkville. Reservations are a good idea after 6 PM.
Good luck. Have fun.
I said different. Best pho in town.Uzo said:Pho 88? are you kidding? I remember going there after hitting up a club or a quick bite for lunch...
I will agree its different, but I highly doubt it fits the criteria the OP has setupThe Cunning Linguist said:I said different. Best pho in town.
...it could be that the typical restaurant in Toronto is just shitty...which is the conclusion I reached, and I was sent to each those dining experiences by someone else, nor am i the only person I know of this opinion. The ex (who lived in Montreal until age 39) feels exactly the same way, and I have friends who travel a great deal who also feel the same way...food is better in known "foodie" cities than here.Captain Fantastic said:Y
PS - The fact that Torontonians keep sending you to shitty restaurants speaks volumes for the people you associate with and seek advice from... either that or they just don't like you and send you to lousy places intentionally! If so, I could understand that... LOL!

There are literally thousands of replies that a guy with your intelligence could have come up with that would have been easier to swallow than the one above.
Speaking of trolling internet boards on a Saturday night, I see your posts were at 9:25, 9:46 and 9:52pm.....
And I'm trying to figure out why you wouldn't ask Torontonians for the best place to dine in Toronto, are we better off chatting with somebody from New York, Boston or Chicago and putting the question to them.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Tis the season for some fine dining with a beautiful lady over a bottle or two of wine.
what about red lobster?Strongbeau said:If you're really looking for what I'm thinking you're looking for, spend the money on a half-hour with an SP.
I'll second Biff's Bistro and, if you're feeling expansive, Jump.
Is that where Santa Claws goes for dinner?red said:what about red lobster?
Exactly the reason to ignore the guy. Do you get into arguments with drunks in public? If you do, that says more about you than anything...MLAM said:...i wasn't doing so drunk off my ass.
You could start by eliminating sweeping generalizations and ad hominen-type statements - like the one you made against everyone in Toronto having terrible taste. I'm pretty sure that most, even here on TERB, wouldn't find Il Fornello quality dining if you took the time to ask or took the time to scratch beneath the surface of bogus "Best Of" lists.MLAM said:And again - I am not exactly sure what the standard is for what is ok to insult someone with and what is not...and why I seem to consistently catch the bad deal of both. Fortunately, I also do not care.
I'm sure there are more high-end restaurants elsewhere (and I'm sure the service is better in other places), but there is plenty of good-to-very good restaurants out there in a variety of styles & ranges and a multitude of ethnicities (more than anywhere in the world, for that matter.) Honestly, what I like about T.O. dining is the lack of pretense (again, except for some of the wait staff) and the good value-for-money.MLAM said:...it could be that the typical restaurant in Toronto is just shitty...which is the conclusion I reached, and I was sent to each those dining experiences by someone else, nor am i the only person I know of this opinion. I'd share hidden gems with you, but I'm afraid you'd shit all over them (not really, I could care less.) Or show the ugly side of your TERB personality in places I frequent. Plus I'd like to get a table at places I like...MLAM said:There are of course some great restaurants here...and I wish I knew more of the "hidden gems". But the fact remains...in my experience...even if a place is well reviewed by WHOEVER...Now...Globe and Mail..Toronto magazine...unless it is top tier and offering world class dining (the Splendio, One, By Mark type experiences), the food will be mediocre at best, and more often disappointing.
That goes both ways. But there should be a certain modicum of respect. Sometimes it's better just to let things go, or take the high road...MLAM said:Now, you don't have to agree with me...but I am still entitled to my opinion...and still allowed to not give a shit that you (or anyone else) might not like how I expressed it.
With appetizer, main, dessert and wine for two? Not a chance. Figure $250+.bananaman said:I've enjoyed Joso's at Ave and Dav. Good fresh seafood, would likely fit in your budget.
