helping my friend with his basement and there are easily over 1000 books. lol
Selling would be tedious and no time to wait, any suggestions?

1000 is a lot of books for a one-time donation to public library.

If it is not too much trouble I'll pick out a handful of
books in good condition and take them to university
or local library.

If possible you may want to sort out books that are sold at
good prices on Amazon and Ebay. You may be surprised by
how much people value old books and dvds of films and
music. It is indeed a lot of trouble to sell them but chance
is you may be able to find someone who is happy to take
those books that can fetch a good price.

Used book stores will take them at .10$ on the dollar. You may have to visit a few to unload them.

Any hardbacks with autographs or in mint condition you might try selling first.

Out in Sauga you call the Mississauga Symphony volunteers.
They take and sort and sell them at the old Sheridan Mall.
For a big cache they might also pick up,

Big sale is the weekend after Labour day
On the lower level in the largely abandon retail areas.
Sorted by genre. Well organized and well attended.

I would guess about $80-100K raised that weekend selling books, dvd, LP's sheet music, old catalogs, etc. Most for $2-3 each
I have attended for past 15 years.

I noticed recently they are running a smaller one day sale on April 13

Where I am they have a book donation bin at the recycling center. I don't know if they simply get recycled into pulp or sifted through. I de cluttered a book shelf full last year.

Kinda depends on the books I imagine. If they're just fluff, there are several "Just Junk" places that will hump them out for cheap. You may want to insist that they go to a recycling facility and not become landfill.
