Yeah powder is cool too. Nice thing about skiing is you get so many different types of snow. But Hard, icy fast is my fav.

I ski whereever... West or even Lake Placid. Not much in Ontario, but don't mind Blue Mtn, except when crowded.

I love going to hills in Winter Storms because you know they will be empty and the conditions great.

How does Whiteface (Lake Placid) compare to the Rockies for vertical and number of runs? They held an Olympics there - so it must be reasonably tall.

It is really worth going and it is so close. You do get some fairly steep runs, and the lifts are really neat. One thing kind of nice there too is they have all these road side motels that have ski packages as well... most are family run with awesome food.

I would say for sure I like the West better, Whistler, & also Sunshine Area.

Just a little nicer and more variety in Canada's West.

However, yes Placid did have the Olympics... it is no slouch. A nice hill. Lots of other places close too, although I did not try them.

It is only 6 and half hours roughly to drive if I remember correctly, so it is close.

Vertical good

Variety OK but not as good as west.
Yeah....Whiteface Mountain Lake Placid...closest and best bet for us living out here in the Kingston area. Of course it's nicknamed "Ice-face" but if you are looking for a spot that doesnt have condos and retail grabs splattered at the bottoms of the runs this is the hill. No glitz, no glamour, simply some great skiing.

Whistler! And mount seymour a couple of times. I live in BC now and a friend has a condo up in Whistler so I will definitely be up there quite a bit this year. I just bought new skiis and have not had the chance to try them out.

Ever been up to the top of Blackcomb mountain on the glaciers? If you haven't it is real neat.... you basically go up as far as you can go on the lift.... then you actually have to walk uphill a short distance (the altitude pounds your heart even theough it is short). Then you go down this narrow goat path and from the path you ski down a large hill onto the glacier. The snow is super thick, but what a site... the sun always seems to shine because you are up above the clouds. When I was there I went up there every day... just so beautiful.

Anyone ever ski race? That is kind of cool too... I only dabbled in it a bit...

I tried that last season, I was wondering where people were walking to so I followed, was awesome :)

FYI, closer to home forget Talisman - now closed and in recievership

BTW, best in BC is at Fernie - all others are pretenders and tourist traps.

Pass on Whistler Blackcomb as you spend more time fighting through the thousands of Japanese and Chinese tourists then actually get any skiing done. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated.
