Just saw a thread on Best Buffets but with Chinese Buffets mostly excluded. (Mandarin food is only a tiny fraction among the huge variety of Chinese food and that OP is really lukewarm about it in any case.) However, the good doc loves Chinese food and just went to Mandarin Buffet this weekend. Btw, that outfit looked grandiose but the food was really so so. Please recommend Buffets with authentic Chinese food in Toronto and anywhere in Southern Ontario. Thanks in advance. :)

Most food courts in large malls have take-out Chinese. I usually get mine at Cloverdale mall in EtobiBLOW.

Toronto really needs more buffet restaurants, and not just Chinese ones

I've been to a few Chinese buffets outside of the Mandarin but I prefer the Mandarin. Could be that I prefer the North American version of Chinese over the Chinese version of Chinese. [yeah, I'm rereading that too]

Star Wok buffet is the only one that Chinese visits regularly. They have 2 locations, 1 on Silver Star Blvd (near Kennedy and Steeles) and the other one in Mississauga (somewhere on Dixie Road). Chinese people rarely go to Mandarin.

If you like meat then there is a buffet style Mongolian grill in Market Village and I find it quite good.

Excellent observation!!! Star Wok must be not too far from Pacific Mall. Will try that next time in Scarborough. Actually, it is very logical for Chinese Buffet outfits to cater to the general public. So an element of North American Chinese food should be expected. For instance, so far not too many of these places have hot and sour soup to the good doc's liking.

On the other hand, even if these Chinese Buffet places offer Japanese and Korean food, it would be fine as long as they are authentic and tasty. :)

Wasabi buffet......its actually a japanese buffet but pretty good with a wide selection of sushi. It is in Mississauga at the corner of Hurontario (hwy 10) and Courtney Park Dr.

Here's a few links. The first two are nominally Japanese/Sushi places but they have a significant Chinese component to their menus. they are not traditional buffets because you order from the menu and the waitstaff bring you the food, however, it's an all-you-can-eat menu with many options and great value and quality (IMHO). The third is a Mongolian hot-pot restaurant which is also all-you-can-eat, very Chinese, and also great value. Each of these places is excellent and not at all like "mandarin".

I used to like Abacus in Woodbine Centre across from the racetracks and in Eaton Centre. Good price and variety of food. They were the only buffet I ever came across fried Salmon steaks. I just love fried fish. Too bad they closed up.

Mandarin seems to be the default.

In Brampton there is Wongs(not far from HFH). Great selection on the weekend. There is also Chan's further across Queen Street closer to Kennedy where Mandarin once was.

There is a Chinese buffet in the Mall at Kennedy and Clarence. I have only been for lunch but found the food was somewhat cool and the selection and taste is not as great as the others but it was cheaper.

Any recommendations for excellent buffet outfits in the Hamilton, St. Catharines, and Niagara Falls area??? Please no more Mandarin Buffet for a while as the most recent visit was at their Niagara Falls location. Thanks.

Copa Cabana in Niagara Falls. I believe it's on Fallsview Blvd. Great Brazilian style all you can eat.
