Where would TERB members say are good retirement places for hobbiests? Things I'd look for are inexpensive housing (preferrably I can buy a condo or bungalow out right), decent food and water that won't give me stomach problems, good conversion rate for my dollars, availability of hot ladies costing way less than $300-$500 U.S/hour, and no legal and cultural B.S. against this hobby.

There is a large American/Canadian retirement community in Guadalajara, Mexico. It is more than 50 miles from the coast so you can buy property there. Drink bottled water.

I hear the real-estate market in Cuba is quite favourable! So are the climate and the women.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica would be my choice. It is a beautiful country and is inexpensive by Canadian standards. I have never 'hobbied' there but have visited several times and have been impressed by the genuine friendliness of the people and the great beauty of some of the women.

from what i have read on other boards, i would agree that costa rica is good...

then again, if you do not mind going further afield, thailand might be the best of all!

Costa Rica

My accountant recommends Costa Rica highly though I think that he has a vested interest because he was about to sink some $250K into a resort in Costa Rica. :) He kept telling me that the rate's $50 U.S./night (for a girl, not a room).

I'm surprised nobody said Toronto's good place to retire.

Sure, as long as you don't mind the cold winters. Then again, I can think of a few ladies who wouldn't mind keeping you warm at night! :)

Real Estate

OK, I'm rehashing an old thread, but I just did a search on realtors.com, and the prices for downtown (and I'm talking Bay Street, Dundas and University) condos are $100K U.S., and lake-front condos are $120K. Oh my god, that's about 1/5 the price of a comparable Manhattan condo. I guess the cold weather does have one good effect -- it drives all the retirees to Florida, keeping real estate prices affordable up north.

Sydney and Thailand

I would suggest either Sydney Australia or Thailand. Both have great people and a hobby friendly culture.

Good luck.

I went to Costa Rica in September. The choices of women were amazing. You can get girls for $50 U.S., but not for the night. BTW, my room was $50 U.S. & included breakfast! Clean room, security, casino & restaurant on ground floor. If anyone wants further details, feel free to pm me. Costa Rica would definitely be my choice!!

I took my first trip to Thailand last year and truley found it to be heaven on earth (the people, the food, the beaches, the prices, the weather, the lifestyle, etc. are all second to none.)

The funniest thing was in Patong (which is a resort area near Phuket) where the streets are jammed with fat middle-aged Western guys (from all over North America and Western Europe) riding their little motor scooters with beautiful young Thai girls hanging off the back.

It turns out that these guys were all retirees who had moved to Thailand and shacked up with local girls.

I hope to be like that when I grow up.

Article on Costa Rica's Sex Tourism

I found an article on Costa Rica's sex tourism. Obviously, the authors are feminists because they right away describe the male patrons as the "exploiters" and the putas and zorras, real prostitutes and part-time girlfriends, respectively, as the "exploited". Too bad they don't mention that these "exploiters" -- middle-aged White men with a few bucks -- wouldn't get a second look from the researchers themselves back in their home country if these men simply relied on their good looks and charm.

Note that the title, Child Prostituion and Sex Tourism, Costa Rica, is misleading because the researchers rail against even independent, adult women working the sex trade. And they called the zorras, local girls looking to score some benefits from American, Canadian, and European men, the exploited. The zorras don't appear to do anything that Western women don't already do -- they try to improve their situation by entering into semi-permenant relationships with men in solid financial situation. Nonetheless, an interesting read even with its militant feminist tone.

Australia seems like a nice place. Wonder if there are any good discussion boards on the outcall escort scene there?

Forget about buying properties in Cuba. You either have to be Cuban or have a Cuban wife in order to purchase real estate there, for personal use.

Costa Rica may be a better choice. How come no one mentioned Brazil ?

Brazil

Nobody mentioned Brazil in this thread because there are two new threads on Brazil with one being a trip report and the other being a listing of several Brazilian escort web sites. Both are very good threads.

Oh, yes, one last word on Costa Rica. Be careful of dating an under-age girl if you are a US citizen. Check for the exact definition under both Costa Rican and U.S. Federal law before taking the plunge. You are considered in violation of federal law no matter where you are. OK, enough scare mongering. Even with all the restrictions, Costa Rica's ten times more fun than the U.S. :)

If anybody knows how to book a cheap flight for August (supposedly the low season) and some decent hotel (non-Gringo rate), please PM me about how to do this.

500 miles also applies to Canadians under a new law that was passed about a year ago. They recently nailed some guy from Vancouver I think who was doing kids in either The Philippines or Thailand. By kids I mean 12 year olds which I see as truly disgusting and they deserve whatever they get!
