When will the madness stop?

I see in the TO Star today that an American pilot fired into a wedding killing more than 40 people, including children. The US military now says that it was a suspected safe house for foreign fighters from Syria. Have the Americans gone stark raving mad from their paranoia? They claim to want to stop terrorism so they light up a wedding because it is a "suspected" terrorist hide out. Yeah that makes perfect sense. When will the American military top brass and Republican Administration be forced to accept the consequences for their acts of terrorism? Even if there were terrorists there, can the trade-off in human life possibly be worth it? I mean how many innocent lives could the unconfirmed terrorists have taken down the road? I doubt the pain those "suspected" terrorists perhaps could've caused in the future is greater than the pain the Americans caused with the slaughter of 40 innocents at that wedding. The American mentality seems to be to wipe out terror with more terror. It brings to mind the expression there is nothing to fear except fear itself. Obviously many Americans are so paralyzed by fear that it has caused their brains to completely shut down.

On the very same page I see a Palestinian man wailing holding a dead child. Israeli forces fired on a protest march at the Rafah refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip. Niiiiiiiiice. This was done with tank shells. At least 10 Palestinians, mostly children, were killed and 50 others were wounded, 36 of them critically. What a tragedy. I say for shame. It will do nothing to stop terrorism, in fact it will have probably created hatred that can never be quenched. For that Palestinian man there is probably hell to pay.

The world definitely needs new leadership starting with the fall of George Bush and Ariel Sharon.

You certainly have that right - while Bush is guilty of bad judgement and living a life off of his families connections - Sharon should be tried in the Hague and executed for crimes against others, and also those ISraelis he had killed to cover his past. Both, will probably live out their days without any retribution though - thats the way it works!

I'm not defending the military actions, but in addition to it being a suspected safe house in a remote border region, it is also customary to fire guns into the air in celebration of nuptuals. Maybe they could try celebrations that might not be mistaken to be hostile given the tensions in the region. Particularly when there are air patrols in the area that regularly take hostile fire from the hills around the borders.

Maybe they should just go out into the streets and over turn cars like some U.S. college students do when celebrating.
Couldn't they just get drunk and get in trouble with their wives like the rest of us?

Gunfire cannot take down jet fighters flying at high altitude. There is absolutely no excuse and the actions of the United States military in all of this has been shameful.

Why don't the Iraqi insurgents just bide their time, wait until control passes to the Iraqi people, vote in the next election for someone who wants the same things they do and live peacefully with each other?

I'm sure the politicians in Iraq won't lie like the ones in Ontario, right?

I think the issue was that ground or helicopter forces thought they were taking ground fire in an area they were engaging (we all know that ground fire can bring down helicopters) and called in air support.

Both incidences in you original post are tragic.

This was disgusting! Inexcusable murder!!! On CBC last night you could see a child pouring blood as he bled to death in the arms of a man trying to get him away from the carnage and to some medical attention. The Israelis thought that the protesters were getting too close. An argument like that in defense of the Kent state shooting. But this time small children were murdered!!! Israeli citizens were protesting this murder!

We are lucky to by chance have been born in this part of the world and not have to witness our children being murdered. And yes certain Palestinians murder Israelis too. Nothing justifies any of it. It is all immoral and evil.

Yeah in an operation as large as the Iraq invasion and occupation shit happens, just like it did in Afghanistan, when four Canadian soldiers were killed.

There were no ground or helicopter forces in the area (they were running airstrikes with AC-130 warships actually). The US has no excuse and can only bow their heads in collective shame.

Sorry, the Muslims don't drink and they kill people who drink alcohol.

Plus they can have four wives if they can afford to. But you get fewer choice. Many don't shave and you may mistaken some of them are men.

What an irony when it was the Egyptians who invented waxing. No the ancient Egyptians.

Regarding celebration, they can always revert to the old "tradition" like brandishing the swords or what not to chop something, instead of firing AK 47s like an orgy.
Wow, you're as ignorant about Muslims as you are about women.

Just as hateful too.
