local SPCA and Ride for the Cure are my two usuals and then I'll generally contribute $20 or so to any of my friends and coworkers that are fundraising for their particular passion.

Although not quite a charity, I do like Kiva.org

Helping people in developing countries become self sufficient feels very rewarding.

I agree 100% I think kiva is a great idea. I think handouts rob people of dignity, but loans are an endorsement of their idea and ambition.

I'm not big on donating to hospitals... my twisted logic is as follows: Why should I donate money so doctors and the CEO of the hospital can make 2-4 x what I make? If the believed in their cause as much as I did, they would not demand that kind of money. Besides, I already pay through my tax $$. While healthcare is vital. I believe it has been hijacked my doctors and the OMA for their own enrichment and to the detriment of our society.

Ya know I never thought of it that way!!!!! Maybe Doctors, Hospital CEO etc should be paid like ONA Nurses, OPP and other Provincial employee's. after all it is TAX money paying these obscene salaries.

ONE Salary for all of them no matter where you work in the Province. An OPP Officer is paid the same whether he is in Windsor or Kingston Why not CEO's etc.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF, Medecines Sans Frontieres) is my one and only international charity.
Absolutely.

One thing that impressed me about MSF was during the tsunami crisis when all the aid agencies were hoovering up donations as fast as their websites could process them MSF was the *only* one honest enough to post up a prominent note on their donations page saying they had already collected all the money they could realistically spend on tsunami relief and that any further donations would be put to good use elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile Red Cross and all the other big agencies were running advertising campaigns and funding drives urging people to donate to tsunami relief--when they knew damn well that they weren't going to spend new donation money there.

The MSF guys literally put their lives on the line to help people no-one else will help.

I like Doctors Without Borders too. Also on the international scene, equally
vital work in the area of human rights is performed by Lawyers Without Borders. They are very often at risk in hostile environments on self-funded missions. Hats off to all who put themselves out there!!!!

Most any charity that does not seek to murder the unborn.

Too often in human history this has been done and always devastated the society it sought to purify.

I know what your doing, and its funny.
