You'd think Canada Day (celebrating our great country) would be more important than a stupid soccer game... and yes, soccer is stupid. I don't care how close to their hearts it is, it's boring and just as bad a religion (in the sense that it provokes so easily).

To snub and insult the Canadian flag on Canada Day is just plain effing rude. Dumbass pricks.

If the Leafs won or Team Canada won I would celebrate of course. But I would not hide behind a mob and mouth off to a citizen waving his own flag on the official day of that country.
i think you'd still piss off a local citizen in their own country...everyone would do that.

If i was in europe and Canada won anything i'd be showing off my canadian flag even if it was the country's independence day...

face it...its just happens Canada day falls on the same day as the pork chops game.

our hockey teams have been booed during our national anthems game in the past ...and am not defending the portuguese cuz am not one myself.

Yes, if I was a foreigner in another country waving around my home country's flag and belittling someone with the flag of the country I was visiting on their national holiday, that would be wrong.
What I wonder about this whole thing, and would not be surprised if it was true, is if the Portugal flag waving idiot is actually a Canadian citizen. I'm sure he is decsended from Portugal in some generation of his family but none the less, still a CANADIAN CITIZEN. Heck, he was probably born in Oakville or something.

They can all go fuck themselves, they're gonna lose anyway.
Now after reading this (and the story about College St.), kinda glad they deported some Portuguese people. Guess they missed a few ;)

No.

The English fans are much more low key than the Pork Chops.

Same with the Germans and French.

The worst are the Pork Chops, with the Italians and Brazilians being toss up for second.

99% of the goofs running around with Brazilian flags during WC arent really Brazilian, they fall into two categories, Portuguese whose team has been eliminated by this time or band wagon jumpers who come in all shades of the rainbow, both people drive me freaking nuts lol

Don't single out just the Portuguese. I've seen nutty celebrations in Little Italy, Greektown and Koreatown when their teams have won in various World/Euro Cups. I think it is pretty fun and harmless overall other than that one dude who was insulted for having a Canadian flag (now that would piss me off too).

I always hope to see Portugal eliminated as soon as possible. I have only one self-serving reason for this: I'm forced to drive through this neighbourhood to get to work, as well as to HOL2 & Fairbanks. Toronto's Portugese are already the slowest and most infuriating drivers on the street. Anything that brings them out in large numbers is bad news for me.

I am astonished at how many North Americans still live in such a cultural vacum that they are not aware of the World Cup and take this as something political.

I am also astonished that people can whine about the price of gasoline all year, yet think nothing of driving around in circles from 5PM to Midnight holding a flag out their sunroof. I wish gasoline had gone up to $2/litre, so that people only drove for essential things, like work and hobbying.

I'm seriously wishing for a Germany and France victory just so the portugeese and italian fans will shut the hell up. There's nothing wrong with having a sense of national pride, but they're just too obnoxious. They stall traffic by sitting in a lane waving their flags at every car that passes by. And for what? I seriously don't understand it. Koreans too, they annoyed the crap out of me. More so because I knew the vast majority of them were bandwagon jumpers. Atleast most italians and portuguese follow soccer in between world cups. If either team wins we'll never hear the end of it. Just like how everyone on the danforth has a poster of the greeks wining the euro cup two years ago.
Being proud is one thing, but both nationalities bring up to the point of being douchebags
