On the road with Willy
About 30 years ago I came close.
There was a scratch ticket called Playball.
My pre-ex at that time worked downtown and when I would pick her up I would visit a small smoke shop. Check the mags and buy a ticket or 2.
This time I got on a role. Free tickets, small $2, $5 wins that kept me going. I cleared the tray and all his Playball tickets he had in the store. I still had a few small winners.
After dinner at her parents place I went to the local Corner store.
Samething. I kept on winning. Cleared the tray of about 30+ tickets. Finally the winning streak ran out.
There were 3 tickets left.
Stupid me left them. I thought if I was going to win I would have.
The cashier knew me as a regular. The next day she told me I should have bought those 3 tickets. Some guy on his way to night shift won the top prize of $50k on 1 of the tickets I left.
To put it in todays perspective, at the time you could have bought a 3 bedroom brick bungalow with garage and a modest car for that money.

Wow, that sucks!

Actually, there was a study that came out that showed that most gamblers quit just before hitting the big one:

The moral is to never quit.

I never play them ever since a university prof told our class that lotteries are a hidden tax on the poor.

I think the more you win, the more you loose. It's hard to play when you have luck and you try to make everything again when you loose. By the end of the day you will loose more because in the long run, casino always has more money than you ...
The most I won was $5,000 in Roulette !!!

When proline first came out I won $5000 and then a year later won another $5000, both on long shot tickets. Sadly nothing since and that was over 20 years ago. I don't play much anymore but a friend and I split on the NFL pools tickets hoping for the big win.
Nice!

I never won huge like that on proline, but when proline first came out in the early or mid 1990s, it was fantastic. WHomever was in charge of setting odds must have got fired because the payouts were set big and odds were locked for a week. Underdogs would get odds of 4.00 or 5.00. I remember taking Carolina Panthers to beat SF 49ers at 4.00 or 4.50 on multigame ticket. Both teams were playing great that year and had the same record, but some reason Carolina is a 4.50!??!? I'll take it. And they won.

I remember hockey playoffs and the underdogs team would get a blanket underdog odd of let's say 3.00 for ALL games in the series whether they were at home or the road. Definitely worth taking as a risky pick for their games at home.

The second they changed the odds to be skimpier payouts (probably early 2000s), I quit. Not worth it.

Casinos don't win because they have more money than you do, they win because the games are made in a way that the advantage is held by the house/bank (casino). There is only a small percentage of people who ever make money in a casino as human greed is always in play, and majority of people always want to make more. There are very few systems that actually work as majority are flawed unless you know how to count cards which believe me is not easy and the casino would threw you out for doing so, as they find it a disadvantage in Blackjack.

Roulette is one of the worst games in the casino in regards to odds for players consider yourself very lucky, I once lost $3400 on Roulette in 15 minutes. Roulette is the devils game, if you actually add up all the numbers on a roulette wheel it adds up to 666.
