About 30 years ago I came close.
There was a scratch ticket called Playball.
My pre-ex at that time worked downtown and when I would pick her up I would visit a small smoke shop. Check the mags and buy a ticket or 2.
This time I got on a role. Free tickets, small $2, $5 wins that kept me going. I cleared the tray and all his Playball tickets he had in the store. I still had a few small winners.
After dinner at her parents place I went to the local Corner store.
Samething. I kept on winning. Cleared the tray of about 30+ tickets. Finally the winning streak ran out.
There were 3 tickets left.
Stupid me left them. I thought if I was going to win I would have.
The cashier knew me as a regular. The next day she told me I should have bought those 3 tickets. Some guy on his way to night shift won the top prize of $50k on 1 of the tickets I left.
To put it in todays perspective, at the time you could have bought a 3 bedroom brick bungalow with garage and a modest car for that money.
