This mindset gets a lot of people in trouble when they put their money in stocks. Had a co-worker that held onto to Nortel long after it crossed $100 per share because it was supposed to go higher. Was counting on Nortel stock to finance a good chunk of his new home. Panic sold the stock when it dropped like a rock. Still renting an apartment as far as I'm aware.Actual loss, or virtual loss?
Back in the 90s I bought some call options on a software company and cashed them out for a cool $40k profit. Had I held on to them another month I would have made half a million on them.
$40K profit is nothing to sneeze at since it's cash in your hand.
