Thailand or Vietnam? for a year. Or 6 months each.
If you do rich light 20 million is 100 years of luxury.
it costs 3k a year to rent a luxury apartment there.
Other than luxury goods I cant imagine spending more than 100k a year in Vietnam unless you want to burn 100 dollar bills.
you cant get any hotel in Toronto for what a 5 star hotel room costs in Vietnam -and thats a pretty wasteful way to burn your money.
I could see an issue with food - having a personal chef at your table is standard, BUT basic quality of raw food is poor - you have to fly it in daily from Japan if you really want top quality. And there is the mutagen problem so local safe food is a challenge.
Even 5 star hotels have less than expected food quality (chefs are amazing, but the fact everything is shipped in effects quality)
I guess the real expense is western medicine. You really have to bring your own hospitals or accept the delay in emergency services. Even with the fastest transportation money can buy you can be half the day away from top notch medical care. Tourist deaths and ex-pats death from easily Treatable problems like car crashes are an issue. And then there the kidnap insurance - a must - AXA XL et al for current prices. remember everyone gets kidnapped its not if, its when.
PS
I think the majority of people are unsuited for the realities of these locations except in the most sanitized versions. I have seen lots of violent ends from stupid things -like if your rent a car there, you might not have working brakes. When I rented a motor bike, the first 4 or so where unsafe to ride, and the one I did rent I was hoping my safety check was good enough . . . there basically no laws in these places and money only protects you so far.
