2040 is not too far away.

* Battery powered technology will be much more advanced and the majority of vehicles will be electric. The support system (chargers) will be much larger. Current energy companies will become major players in this industry.
* Other forms of renewables will be more advanced, but not on a large scale.
* These new forms of energy will aid in the production of food and synthetic foods will become more popular.
* The world will have experienced another pandemic that will kill off a larger chunk of the global population.
* Internet connectivity will be available around the planet.
* Cell phones will be able to project holographic images. Phones will be as small as devices that can be worn hands free or embedded in the body.
* Medical advances will include additional types of cancers will be curable and bionic/robotic organs and limbs will be stronger and more human like
* Religion will become less of a thing as younger generations pull further away from it. Extremists will still survive.
* Education will be a split of in class and on-line learning. Technology will play a much larger role and teachers duties will be more focused on physical learning situations and career development.
* Drugs and alcohol will still be a source of recreational pleasure and also a negative consequence with addiction and crime.
* Technology and prevention will make it more difficult to get away with crimes.
* Sexuality will continue to develop in terms of acceptance and becoming "normal". There will still be challenges in countries that have been more traditional and less tolerant, however younger people will initiate change in those areas.
* Someone on Terb will still be bitching about Trump

A good list, mostly concur.

I would add:

Technology
-Virtual reality (aka the metaverse) will be huge. People will be able to live in a virtual world: learn, attend meetings, shop, attend concerts, explore different worlds, play sports, games, simulatewars, sex, etc. Their will be a thriving economy within this world.
-The metaverse is becoming so real-life that it is beginnig to slowly simulate the real world. We are now closer to building the Marix, a simulation of the real world. Billions of people elect to live in this artificial world, as it shields them from the unpleasantness and
diffculties of the real world.
-Robots will begin to become common place, walking the streets running errands, serving as security guards, hotel receptionsists, doing factory work, helping out at home, entertaining, acting as sex surrogates.
-Artifical Intelligence will have evolved to such an extent that it is beginning to beome a threat. AI has resulted in machines killing humans, sometimes as if they decided to on purpose. AI is used in self-driving, sentencing criminals, diagnosing illness, treating illness, teaching, making military decisions, flying airplanes, and making important policies that affect humans.

-Apple and Microsoft will continue to innovate, while Facebook dies off due to the controversies surroundigng privacy. It's version of the metaverse ends in failure.

-Tesla becomes the most valuable company in the world, producing self-driving cars that can serves as taxis when the owner does not use them. Tesla also makes breakthroughs in AI.
-Electric cars become the norm, and combustion engines are almost extinct.
-Renewable energy such as solar, wind, nuclear, and electric now provide most of the modern countries' energy
-Flying cars begin to come common
-People do not need to wear a headset for the metaverse. Instead, a projector displays holographic images from an iPhone or other smart phone. This allows people to communicate with other people as if they were right in front of them. It's the next logical step (we now have Facetime, which is one step behind).
-People can manipulate and interact with 3D images (move things around in three dimensions) with the swipe of their hands, as sensors on smartphones can detect hand gestures.
-Genetic engineering, and genetic medicine makes almost all disease curable by fixing the underlying genetic causes of diseases. However, only the wealthy can afford this treatment and there so there is a further gap bewteen the haves and have nots.

-There will be people on Mars, with a colony or both the moon and Mars.
-Humans begin mining asteroids and other planets

Society
-The human population reaches maximum, and begins a slow decline
-Immigrants and people of colour make up 75% of the population of Canada, the US, and other European countries. Immigrants are needed to make up for low birth rates.
-The population of several countries is near collapse (such as Japan). There are not enough young workers to support the elderly. More robots and immigrants are used to make up for the shorrtage of labor.
-People become much more selfish and tied to material things. As a result, they spend their time in the metaverse on superficial things. Loneliness becomes widespread, and this leads to more drug use, depression, mental illness, crime and suicide
-The gap between the rich and poor will become much more pronounced around the world. The elite will have access to luxuries that the poor and middle class will try to emulate, which will lead them to become more indebted.
-For the first time ever, life outside of Earth will have been confirmed, perhaps by a UFO that has been shot on video that leaves no doubt. Or perhaps simple forms of live on Mars or elsewhere.
-There will continue to be racial unrest and more protests and violence
-People are actually working longer hours for less. At least the majority of working and middle class are.
-Children are taught by AI teachers at home
-Drug companies will continue to push their meds on people, and begining at an early age, children are prescribed meds. 80% of all adults are on some kind of medication for mental or physical problems that are due to obesity or mental illness caused by an unhealthy lifestyle.

-Humans will be divided into four main categories:
1)Natural: naturally born humans with no alterations, like most humans today
2)Genetically enhanced: Humans with genes edited to rid themselves of diseases, also superior height, looks, intelligence, athletic ability. They will be the offspring of wealthy parents who can afford to pay for these enhancements.
3)Mechanically enhanced (Cyborg): Humans with mehchanical enhancements such as artifical limbs that make them stronger/faster, ears that allow super hearing, eyes that can see far, see in the dark clearly, see infrared, etc. Also, artifical organs such as hearts. These mechancial enhancements are usually done to correct diseases or missing parts, but also are done by people who just want an edge.
4)Android: These are robots that are so human like, it's very hard to distinguish them from real humans. The look, act, talk, and interact just like real humans.

Catastrophes
-A new pandemic is born. This ones is not only very contagious, but very lethal. It wipes out 10% of the world population before a vaccine and cure are found.
-Climate change has become so severe that severe climate events have displaced millions
-A water shortage leads to wars
-A severe earthquake hits Tokyo, killing hundreds of thousands. Luckily, most buildings are designed to withstand earthquakes, so damage is somwhat moderated.
-Severe hurricanes, droughts, and other events kill millions
-A nuclear war between Russia, China, or North Korea and the West happens. The world is in a crisis.

Your comment on drugs and alcohol has been an issue since they were produced.

yip, given another senseless war now, not learning from past wars, counties controlled by ego maniac lunaric dictators, humans too greedy, stubborn and stupid global warming, wild habitat extinction, deforestation, and massive pollution, etc, we should be ok in 2040 but I ain't betting on it.

As long as I can still get a hard on to last multiple shots on goal for an hour, have the money, walk to see a SP from this board, I really don't care about the rest of High, Addicted, Narcist, ( princess magical syndrome) and lost in space gay denials, selective hearing, cancel culture pharma supporters, NUTJOBS.

No more climate strike by 2040. Climate sheeple will be protesting
gasoline rationing instead.

Hologram interactive porn will be available. China’s ecology will be ravished from the mining and manufacturing associated with rare earth metals for robot and EV batteries. Cocaine will be legally sold in Canada. Burger King will have disappeared.
