This is the kind of thing poor people worry about.

The taes on fuel is a part of the cost as well. All anyone can do is factor the cost of fuel into what size of car we drive and how far we drive.

I haven't really changed my lifestyle at all because I made changes years ago. Although I have a car, I don't use it very much. I prefer to get around using transportation that is more environmentally friendly. I guess if there is one change, its that I look more carefully at longer trips, for example up north to cottage country.

I like the high prices for now.
It forces people to look for alternative/cleaner energy solutions in the long term.

Straight line driving, accomplish many errands in one trip. Be the slowest one on the take off at a red light.

Stay at or below the speed limit. Check your tire pressures regularly. Don't wait until the last second to begin braking

Ha ha ha had to gas up today but only put in a half tank. Hopefully prices will drop as least a dime in the next few days after the decline in oil spot to under $100 last week.

Glad I've got a fuel efficient car. If I had the bucks I would get a hybrid.

I have no problem with it, I drive to make my living (and of course to hobby) with the prices high and probably going higher there are less cars, trucks, etc on the road = less pollution too.

We only need to look to Europe to see the future.

We all say that we are fed up, won't pay any higher prices etc. But Europeans have been paying 50% more than us for a long time.

The average european's personal solutions include smaller and lighter vehicles, diesel engines and planning their driving more strategically both in terms of planning their trips and their driving habits.

Societal solutions include better public transit and less reluctance to walk or ride a bike.

Driving a Hummer or Escalade is regarded in many circles as being positive vulgar proof you are a fat ass redneck hillbilly. And that is something to aspire to!
Good post. Everytime I am driving behind a big ass 4 x 4 and the driver swerves around a little pot hole at 20km/hr, I want to ram the fucking gas guzzler.

I love to hear suburbanites complain about the high price of gasoline. These people want to live 50 or 60 km from their jobs, drive huge cars to get to work every day, and then complain about the price of gas.

Driving less is not really the answer that I want.

Until our governments realize that neither the consumers nor the car manufacturers will spearhead the development of a cleaner source of energy, we will never have an answer.

We the consumers are the chumps. We keep buying or demanding all the shit that the car manufacturers are putting out there.

Surprisingly nobody said hobby less as their solution.
The trend of hobbying to become more local has already been set. MPs
have been opening up in in small towns like Trenton, Cambridge, Barrie etc.
A hobbyist from Pickering for instance would stick with Pickering Angels but
not likely want to drive as far as SRM.

Gas prices would likely pull back in the short term in recessionary time.
But with peak oil looming I expect long range driving to become
increasingly less affordable in the long run. I expect in 25 years
world oil production would slide to near half of today's level. By then I
would have to settle for only MPs within walking distance. I can always
mess with my neighbors' wives and daughters though.
