I make my own lunch most of the time. I have saltine crackers in my office. If I feel like having something more, it doesn't go more than $10. I probably spend $30 a week on take out food

Early week is usually leftovers but later in the week I usually hit the food court. If there is a business meeting planned then it is expensed. Usually keep fruits at the office, we have a kitchen and nobody rarely steals the food from the fridges. On the days that I go out the bill varies anywhere from about $8 to $15.

Tough to say I usually bring leftover from the night before. So chicken/beef/pork/lamb/turkey/fish, steam veg, rice/potatoes/sweet potato. Nothing special but I usually get complements on the looks and smell. I like that I know the source of the ingredients and amount of salt.

Just because someone else is paying is not an excuse to get slimy and wasteful. [/QUOTE]

This I agree with that food should never be wasted, what I was referring to was maybe his company pays for his lunches so he doesn't have to foot the bill and he really doesn't care how much he spends on lunch.

I don't any wealthy people who became wealthy by pinching pennies. They may be wealthy and pinch pennies because that's what they did when they were poor, but that's not how they became wealthy. And I know a lot more wealthy people who are wasteful ("You gotta spend money to make money").

These threads seem to be more about people seeking affirmation that not being wasteful is the right thing to do. That may be, but it's not going to make you wealthy.

I bring my lunch 4 times a week and treat myself on Fridays to a Shrawma that costs around $6. Every other month a group of us will go out and the cost goes up.

I have a direct report that buys breakfast and lunch everyday, costs him $25 A day. I figure it costs him about $5000 a year (25 x 200). I save my money for better things

I've notice I tend to eat at the same places and the only time eating out becomes a treat is when I travel on business

When I am home I am leaning towards cooking more of my meals. Yes buying Oxtail is becoming more expensive but when I work out the math the cost is almost the same took cook at home by myself or buy it and get something I am not fully going to enjoy.

now it boils down to how hungry am I and I am too tired to cook.

Ugh the website ate my carefully tapped response.

TL:dr version: I skimp on breakfast and lunch: $6-9 each so my gf and I can cook really nice food together for dinner 3-4 nights a week and the savings from the other meals goes into the dinner kitty. Dinner can be $65-80 with wine and we take 2 hrs to make it. Great date night

On my own I love the Korean ribs Sobeys is selling at the meat counter. 5 mins on super high heat and down the hatch.

I never eat in, haven't in at least 10 years. Average daily spend on food is $20 - $40.

Same here. Hardly have time to eat lunch and if I do I eat out. Similar for dinner also. But it's not the money that worries me it's the health factor. Outside food are all processed and I know I'm gonna suffer long term.

I have a few places where I can get a decent lunch. The secret us finding places where it is $4.00 or less as you only pay 5% GST and no PST. It is getting harder to find these places but they are out there. 6 or 7 years ago it was easier. For example, if I go to Johnny's burger, order a single burger, under $4.00 with tax. If I want fries or a drink, I order separately, it keeps it under $4.00. 8% savings is huge and it keeps it out of Wynn's pocket.
