As for colour black and white are simply more practical. Most women prefer to wear a matching set or at least one that coordinates, bras wear out at a different rate than panties so it's much easier to get a matching black bra or panties than to try to match a shade of blue, red, purple or any other colour. White is also very practical for under certain fabrics as it is less likely to show through, a blue bra under a white shirt might be okay for a night out but definitely isn't office appropriate.
Finally as for the style, well each lady has her own preference but most girls I know call the larger cut styles their period panties, it's just about being comfortable and practical.
Btw has anyone noticed the large number of guys that wear black or white boxer briefs? Strange when there are so many great options for them to choose from. I think more men should wear this...

After an exhausting afternoon of field research in the downtown on a hot and windy day, I am pleased to report that there is a wide variety of panties being worn on the streets of Toronto. A surprising number of brightly striped and polka-dotted ones actually, simple black thongs, the occasional little lacy thing and yes, practical white cotton bikinis.

The women I've lived with matched their panties to their clothing. If they were wearing something skin tight they would wear the floss. If they wore a skirt or looser fitting then they worse the comfortable ones.
