What is it with black and white panties?!

So I have this girlfriend who works in an industry where she encounters a lot of females, ranging from teens to the elderly, in various states of undress down to their skimpies. We were having a chat over the weekend while sharing a nice bottle of wine and she raised a rather interesting topic. She told me that most of the women, including young attractive women and teens (her words not mine) wore mostly black or white panties, particularly black. And not the sexy kind you see at la senza or the lingerie boutiques but just standard black and white cotton panties. She went on to say that she would estimate that almost 85% of women fell into this category where only once in a while someone would actually be wearing something sexy or silky or frilly.

That was quite a surprise to me. I've been in la senza knicker store and there you can find the sexiest, skimpiest, silky, lacy panties mostly NOT black or white so I can't fathom why most ladies where black or white cottons.

I decides that this question has to be brought before a panel of Terb experts. I would be very interested to hear some theories as to why this is and if you have heard (or seen) similar stories

They're the most comfortable panties. The silky lacy panties are just when going out when they want to feel sexy and there is a possibility that they may make an appearance.

Oh yeah, they probably come in packs of 5 for $20 too.

Why black or white cotton undies? As was said-- dirt cheap, easy to wash, and comfortable. Not to mention they don't have to be 'granny cut'. Why do so many men wear black and white tube socks? Same reason. Heck, I even wear my tube socks in dress clothes. They're thicker, have more padding than dress socks, and are less prone to ripping and getting holes. (Though I do avoid sitting on stools in that case.)

And more importantly what are you guys doing to stop this. Life is too short to NOT be wearing sexy underwear. Come on guys. Let's start a movement against black and white cotton comfies.

Because cotton allows the skin to breath. The silky ones don't and hence irritation and even yeast infections can occur from wearing synthetic fibre panties.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The OP doesn't specify why his girlfriend sees near naked women, but I would imagine that if you're going somewhere where you know someone will see you in your underwear (other than a lover) you're going to wear something very ordinary.

Some women may purposely put on those conservative types knowing they'd be shedding their clothes in front someone that day.

Most of the women and girls I see in public are wearing thongs, G's, hipsters,boy shorts,french cuts or none.
