What is High Definition?

Can someone give me a basic primer on high def? There's lots of sales on high def TVs for boxing day but I know next to nothing about the technology.

You have to rent/buy a box from the cable company right? And pay a monthly fee? It replaces cable?

No you do not need to rent anything .you can Get HD TV over the air for FREE! If you are near the GTA a low one time cost antenna can get you over a dozen channels for free. You can also get about 20 HD channels from cable or Satilight and they will charge you a monthly fee ontop of the regulare analog channels. You still get analog channels allong in addition to the HD channels
