What happened at Mojo Radio?

I haven't been listening to the radio for a couple of weeks (bought a couple of new CD's) and while driving into work this morning I tuned to AM640 to listen to the re-broadcast of the Humble and Fred Show like I always do Saturday mornings.

Not only was it a broadcast of the "best" of Jeff Marek, but I checked the Mojo website just now, and all evidence of Humble and Fred seems to have been wiped from the site.

Anybody know what's going on?

Back home for now
Humble and Fred have decided not to sign another contract with
mojo radio, they will be the new morning show at Mix 99.9 in a month or so. No decision has been made at Mojo who will take their place yet.

Thanks

Too bad. Other than hockey, that show was the only reason to tune into MOJO.

I find Humble and Fred un-frickin-listenable. If something funny ever came out of their mouths... I never heard it. I am pretty sure you could replace Fred with a chia pet and never notice the difference. I liked Ripkin though... with the dearth of Toronto radio personalities (and Stern out of Buffalo) he was one of the few I could tolerate in the morning.

I listened when Andrew Crystal (I think?) interviewed Tracy Lords. I thought the way he slagged her after she hung up was reprehensible... called her a skank.. ho... knob bobber... I lost count of the lovely banter. There is a real diff between being edgy and classless...

I am a regular listener of MOJO. I dont know what happened to Ripkin, he was my favorite, then Scruff and then Mike Stafford. I am getting used to Andrew Krystal. I am sorry I missed the Tracy Lords interview. Maybe it will be on over the weekend. Does anyone know where Ripkin went to. He got married, then left MOJO.
I am never up early enough to listen to Humble and Fred so I wont miss them.

I liked Ripkin the best. Mike Stafford sucks the big one. I won a contests in 2001, and went to collect. No prize for me when I got there. Next 2 times I called into Stafford, he called me an idiot because he claimed I didnt know what I was talking about. Why on earth would he ask people to call in and explain something to him if he already knew everything about everything. Mojo has gone downhill bigtime.

frankly, i am not a big fan of humble and fred - i used to be an avid cfny102 listener... but i think the ratings on AM are low, and without music, its a lot harder than doing a show where you have music half the time - so for humble and fred they jumped ship i think rather than being fired.

just look at the ratings: http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/TorontoSun/News/2003/05/22/92719.html

frankly, i think the whole thing of radio personalities are over-rated. derringer on q is ok, but a bit right wing. scruff is ok. i would rather the stations played more music rather than having lame humour or interviews with people shilling their books!

ironically, the one guy i did like was peter griffin, who used to be on chum and then cfny, with geets romo, who i hated!

That is quite a vendetta... when Stern is good... there is noone who is better... he is less fun since he divorced though. His news commentary has always been good..

I have not listened to Q107 much since... Derringer and lobster boy (wtf is up with that) are horrid... and if I ever want to turn the way back machine to 1974 and listen to Led Zep and Rush at least I know where to turn... I really do not get the whole classic rock format... tuning in to the radio to listen to compressed music you already own... the fact that Jack radio (or whatever they call it) is attempting to portray itself as novel is pretty ridiculous.

I wish 92.9 would boost their signal strength, in some parts near hydro poles etc., it fades out. It must get a lot of Toronto listeners. I listen to it all the time.

Toronto stations are really crap, they seem to have a commercial break like every 2nd song. And I don't care about the traffic info, it never helps at all, it is just irritating. Oh the 401 is busy during rush hour, oh shock, and alternate route - nothing, so thanks for the useless info!

The only Toronto station I can listen to over a long time is Jazz FM 91.1 because it his very little commercials. Thank goodness I like Jazz because I'd go nuts listening to the commercial Toronto stations, and the latest no talent 15 minute flash in the pan.

Oh and what is with this crap "Train 48" - who watches this crap.

If H & F are old hat, WTF about Scruff? He is using the same stuff he did when he was Q's morning guy in the early '80s.

I enjoy Guy's Garage with Johnny B. and Rob Forte also.
Johnny B is a total TOOL! I know one of his ex-GFs who is a waitress in a Newmarket restaurant. I was in there one day for lunch when they were going out and he made his friend pay the bill because he did not want to pay his GF (he actually made a point of saying it out loud). Then when he says goodbye to her, he did not even get her name right. He's a long-haired goof that has a job through attrition.

Yee haw, Humble and Fred are getting the hell out of Misogyny radio.

I was an avid CFNY listener when Humble and Fred were on there, but I can't stand that ******* Dean Blundel. He has to be the biggest tool on the air today. Danger Boy isn't funny anymore, Sandra Plagagus took off somewhere else.

I used to listen to Deringer but haven't very much at all in the last several months. He (Deringer) has gotten to be too sanctamonious and he has turned into an old coot in a lot of ways. (And he's only 40 I think). I get soooooo tired of listening to the world according to Deringer and him spouting off with his right wing conservative crap. And the music on Q 107 frankly is really moldy. (How many times can you listen to Born to Wild?? And Deringer seems to think that Leonard Skynard are the greatest thing since the Beatles - give me a break, if i hear sweet fucking home alabama one more time....) I actually think Deringer is slightly, no, a lot, manic. The whole "tool of the day" needs to be give a bullet already.

When Humble and Fred were on Cfny, it was the perfect combination of great music and funny DJ's. When they switched to Mojo, i abandonned them since i couldn't stand the am format and that idiotic station they were on. "Talk radio for guys" Spare me the red neck shit please.

I am looking forward to hearing humble and fred on 99.9, but wondering what the feel of the show will be like.

This kind of reminds me of Jessie and Gene. When they left Q way back when for more money on am 640, they were at the top of their game, but spiraled into oblivion after that. They never recovered, or went onto anything. I think they made a brief attempt to come back to FM, but the damage was done. I have no idea where either is now.

Humble and Fred are following very similar patterns I would say.

What ever happened to Brother Jake on Q 107??

Whatever happened to Ripkin, he got canned, or left on his own, I dont know which, but he was my favorite MOJO announcer and I wonder what happened to him. He got married, then he was gone.

ya, i have emailed them about this - this fucking song only comes in around #40 on their best songs of all time, yet i hear it twice a day, at least!

and why? its not canadian content, its a fucking song in defence of of rednecks - who cares "if the governers true" and fuck them for dissing neil young - he had it right!

frankly, i gotta say though that i love psychedelic psundays on Q. most of my classic rock stuff is on vinyl, so i never play it!
