What cables do I need for HDTV?

I'm about to have a Bell Expressvu HD-PVR installed, having just bought a new HDTV. Do I need to buy any special cables (HDMI???) to connect the PVR to the TV? If needed, does the Bell installer have the cables? If so, does Bell charge for them?

If you go HDMI, DO NOT waste your money on fancy monster cables, just use the cheapest ones you can find. There's a TERB thread that describes why in gory detail.

The choices are as follows:

Component video - good

DVI - better

HDMI - best

Pick the best one that your PVR and TV support. And Data's right. Don't waste ur money getting an over priced cable. My HDMI cable cost 20 and it works great.

Does it really matter which brand name of hdmi cables you get. For example will the cables from infinitecables.com, provide the same quality as using monster cables? Or is just a marketing ploy monster uses to achieve market share?

CBC Market place did a test on various hdmi cables, prices ranged from about $10 (online) to over $200 for monster.Their test results (with test equipment to measure loss etc, and also by viewers watching actual video) indicated no difference in video quality over the cables, all cables performed equally.Veiwers could not see any difference in video quality
They did not test for durability etc, so the less expensive cabels may have issues wwith the connections and the plugs over time, but you can buy a lot of lesser priced cables for $200.
MOnster is simply a marketing ploy, with high markups so the retailer can get higher profits on the sale.

Actually I don't believe there are any coax connections available between the PVR and the HD set.

So what cables does the normal Bell tech use to connect the PVR to the TV?

HDMI cables are the best way to go and Gentle Ben is right there is no difference between a $9.00 dollar cable and a $150 cable.

Had Bell deliver and hook up my new HD-PVR. I didn't need to buy any cables. They supplied the cable (HDMI) at no additional cost; came as part of the unit.
