Here's a weird one - Phase 4 London Records about 1968 LP recording of Stanley Black conducting London Festival Orchestra playing Grofe Grand Canyon Suite.
Why you ask? Because I wanted something dynamic to test out a pair of speakers I just finished restoring.
Realistic Optimus T-100 circa 1979, given to me by a pal of my 21yo last weekend, since his family could not use them any more.
Needed flex wire to three of four woofers fixed. More than 40 years of flexing and a lot of the very fine strands of a speaker wire that link the static terminals and moving cone.
Then de-oxidize the control for tweeter level and replace crossover capacitor cause after 40 years they shift in value.
Then after all drivers working, reattach dust caps, and wipe cases down with alcohol wipes where there were marks visible, then foam brush coat them with wood grade tung oil to bring out the nice wood grain their veneer has.
Piped the signal to them with a 1998 era AV receiver they also gave me that seems to be working fine, and a jvc turntable I keep in the work shop just to make sure systems I restore have their phono preamp working correctly.
Music was very nice and open and the speakers imaged the orchestral sound very well.
These speakers I longed for in the Radio Shack catalog, but what 13 year old can spring for a $360 pair of speakers in 1979 $ when I used to deliver over 260 weekly papers for about $4.5 a week.
