What’s a luxury that most people don’t realize is a luxury?

Years ago, when I needed to trade in my car for a new one, the AC wasn’t functioning at its best. My plan was to top off the system with Freon 132A before making the trade. In Canada, it’s illegal for non-licensed individuals to purchase refrigerants, so I had to cross the border to get a can at Walmart.

While there, I spoke with a young employee who shared his story with me. He had once suffered from a medical condition so severe that he couldn’t work, but he couldn’t afford a doctor. To get the care he needed, he had to endure a six-hour bus ride from his small town to New York City to see his cousin, a doctor who provided him with free medical treatment. Many Americans, accustomed to dealing with such challenges on their own, end up waiting out their illnesses. Tragically, some, like Jim Henson, have even died from untreated infections due to this mindset.

Clean water is a necessity, a basic need but many don’t have access to it so it becomes a luxury that we take for granted here.

Being able to leave your house without being bombed is also a luxury given how difficult the situation is in many countries

I beg to differ. Survival of the species is one if not the major driving force in all of nature.
