Well it was a mediocre speech by Trump.

Probably about a half hour too long. Too much off the cuff filler. Started nicely talking about the assassination attempt. Should have gone straight to Biden Criticism then finished strong with the Vision Portion. A good 3 Act speech.

But as usual he went off on rambling bits. So I call it a no harm, no foul, but no improvement speech when it could have been something else.

I am more concerned about the provable lies he said - at least 20 at one count. He keeps repeating lies over and over and over, and some folks believe them. The worst inflation in history? 3% now vs 21% at peak in the 70s or 9.1% recent high. The strongest economy in the world per IMF report, leading the world but he says worst. No wars when Trump President... well at least 30 globally. and On and ON and ON. He is a racist criminal egomaniac, his entire life built on lies, fraud (fake Trump University for RE, fake charity shut down), and Tump organization guy in prison for tax fraud) and deceit. Not to mention morality and all his convicted criminal buddies, he wants to be part of his inner circle as president.

Praises dictators Orbon sp? N Korea good friend, and of course, Putin, who can do anything he wants with Ukraine. Biden restored US credibility at NATO meeting but allies worry about NATO and destroying alliances like Trump did before. Drill drill drill - Why. We have record high production and lots of leases available in key oil areas but no oil companies want them since already at maximum refinery production and leading the world in both gas and oil production.

Global warming is a hoax? Tell that to the millions in the US with the last few years of record heat, tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods due to record-breaking ocean temperatures as well as melting ice caps. Trump proposal, get rid of most alternative energy incentives. It's nonsensical stuff people believe in.

Oh yes the election he won when recounts, audits and many court cases show he LOST fair and square. Rudy lost law license and indicted for his election lies, the Canadian election machine company won a $500 million settlement for fake news against Fox. His many bankruptcies failure to pay bills, most likely tax fraud and HE is the Republican nominee that might be the US President? How sick we are in the US.

Other than most of the world class business' being in the US I find very little to admire about the US. And they are probably about to elect as POTUS one of its most despicable [ in every way imaginable ] individuals. Sadly the Democrats will not have a legitimate alternative .

This should have been 45 minute speech tops. Keep it short and to the point. Talk it up how good it was under his administration before COVID and end with some attacks on the present administration. He could have scored points with ths unifying message that both sides allude to but show no intent of delivering on....And can he please drop the Hannibal Lecter reference...It didn't work the first time he used it in his rallies and it's still a dud. The whole thing was over the top...Like an episode of the old Lets Make A Deal show...But this is todays GOP I guess...Wonder how long he going to milk that bandage for?..LOL.

Yes, it was too long.
It started strong. It needed more structure in the middle leading to a strong ending.

There's two things in Trump's favor.
First, independent and on the fence moderate voters might tune-in for twenty minutes if that.
Second, he does have a lot of energy and his off the cuff is coherent.

What made the first part of the speech solid was while always indulgent he was sincere and sentimental. Of course, that eventually gives way to indulgence as the speech progresses.

PS- I think the Republicans at the convention mostly stayed out of the debate about Biden's cognitive decline. This could be they want him to stay in the race. They could have passed that message down to all the speakers. Also, they did not want to pile on this matter. They would just look insensitive.

His "off the cuff" is coherent in it's stand pat litany of lies, falsehoods, pettiness, grievances, divisiveness, faux-unity, pro-disunity, narcissism, sociopathic utterings, outright bullshit ....... "

Glad you agree he is very coherent on his core, tried and true shit!

You're sooooooooooo nuanced!

You probably planned your whole day summer around his speech.

"I'm too progressive for my shirt, too progressive for my shirt ....."

Some of that is true. However, Biden has a well-known fifty year history of lies and exaggerations.

What I think is fun is how exaggerated Trump's exaggerations are. I sometimes feel like he's both mimicking and mocking politicians with his bombastic style.

I can't tell you how many times I hear a news reporter checking facts sailing by things a Democrat said. Last night, I was listening to a prominent news person start bashing Trump's last year in office. (Yes, it was a terrible year. It was a terrible year for the entire world.) She kind of stopped in her rant realizing she was exhibiting obvious bias. She then basically admitted that the COVID vaccine was developed under Trump's watch. Now I don't think he deserves credit for the vaccine, but he doesn't deserve to be disparaged for economic disruption in 2020.

The reality is Americans had four years of Trump and four years of Biden. No one is smarter than anyone else when it comes to determining which candidate is best for their personal situation. Americans know what Trump is about and how he will run the country.

Nah, I came in about five minutes in. Had it on while I played Diablo. I was curious about whether he would change his tone.

Nope. Still went way off script. Like I said, no change will come because of it

It needed more teleprompter. If he had gone with a more polished speech with a few asides he could have given some real viral moments I think. Instead we got the rally Trump with his Wrestling "Shoot" style. Which is fine. It got him where he is.

Essentially it's not waiting to see who wins this time, but who loses.

It least you can clearly hear and understand the lies, and he is capable of telling them!

funny to see so many of Trump's audience wearing a bandage on their ear.

Same people that refuse to put a mask because they are not sheep.
If Biden speaks at the Democratic convention, I will wear thick bandages around both ears.

Then I can watch the poor guy transmitting the caption try to understand what Biden is saying. ;)
