Half of Canadians now believe “mass deportations” are necessary to stop unauthorized migration. What can be done about the many temporary residents not willing to leave?

"...the number of temporary visas that are going to expire in 2025 is 4.9 million, more than one for every 10 residents of Canada.
The federal government won’t actually admit to that huge number, but it has acknowledged the visas of 500,000 temporary migrants have already ended. And they haven’t left the country.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of 30,000 of those required to depart is unknown. They’re on the “wanted” list of Canada Border Services Agency."

Actually, we have a program wherein long-term illegals who have committed no crime nor gone on social assistance can obtain Canadians PR status after 5 years in the country.

IIRC, it was the Tory Mulroney government who came up with the idea.

Does this apply to all temporary residents whose visas have expired? If so, what incentive do they have to leave? They'll all get PR eventually. Might as well give it to them the moment they land.

So, foreigners entering your country en masse and not leaving is, like, a bad thing? Have you let the Palestinians know?

If you can't see how this just encourages mass illegal immigration, I don't know what to tell you.

Yes it's a bad thing.
Palestinians here (citizens and non-citizens) are allowed to protest by taking over roads and buildings and intimidating anyone who disagrees with them.
But if you dare protest an infringement on your Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, then you will be trampled by police horses and have your bank accounts frozen.

Well I get your rage, but not quite the same comparison.

You can be a convicted felon and exist legally in a country as a citizen or someone with legal immigrant status.

The law exists for a reason. If you're an illegal immigrant, you can be deported. If you don't like the law, then work to change it. Don't get angry at those enforcing it.

If you just don't like who is enforcing the law, but agree with the law, well I can't really help you with that struggle.

btw Do you even know what the "G7. 8. or whatever" is? Or did you catch that in a headline and just threw it in blindly?

They have no idea where a significant number of these people are to begin with.

But illegals who are self supporting and law abiding are a good thing, Buck. That's the sort of immigrant that Canada needs

Then those people don't get legalized. And they probably should because they aren't on OW or involved with the cops.

If they don't know where they are, then they also don't know how many there are. But they keep letting more in.
If they don't become legal, then the question is why not?

Nice Google search bud.
If you already knew Russia wasn't part of it since 2014, then why refer to it as "G7 or G8"?

Canada has no problem refusing people with criminal records either.

People aren't being deported because they are convicted felons. They are deported because they are in the country illegally and many just happen to be criminals as well.

Do you support criminals being in your country illegally?

Agreed… like him or not… he’s also a head of state. In the most famous quote from Lethal Weapon II… “Diplomatic immunity!!!”… no Danny Glover at the end of this one though.

Someone else posted the 5 year rule… which to me is a farce… just promotes under the table work, or SIN fraud.

There’s also a very common scam of businesses issuing T4’s to show employment and earnings… just enough to satisfy the minimum amount, the “worker” uses it for sponsorship of family, then the business withdraws the T4 as “issued in error”…. And they all know that CRA won’t share the info with IRCC.

I could care less about Trump’s own legal issues. If it were a real problem, he wouldn’t be POTUS.

Canada has to burn the rug that it used to sweep all of their BS under.
