No you don't Only some forms of tax.

Some might say that taxes help protect us against private toll roads, protect us against education only for those who can pay for it. medical treatment for the same, and no social net for those who can afford the basics of life.

You do realize the American fought a revolution over taxes. On the other hand, I think that lottery winnings should be taxed 120% and there should be some kind of tax on inter-generation transfer of wealth (in addition to the current capital gains tax).

According to what I heard on the radio, anyone earning $55K/yr is in the top 1% worldwide.

Worldwide, the median income is $1K/yr.

In Canada, the 1% mark is $400K/yr.

I miss the good old days when all you needed to be a 1%er was a bike, a patch, and a long rapsheet.

Not if you haven't addressed the the Greek-like propensity to always spend more than you collect.

The funny thing is it has been Republicans who really have not cared about that problem. But there is no doubt that cost controls are a neccessary part of the fix as well.

It is a little more subtle than that. Taxes are part of the social contract. But contracts are only as good as their enforcement mechanisms.
