The war between Marvel and DC is going to intensify courtesy of HBO.
Watchmen is a DCU property, they've collaborated with HBO to bring it to the screen. It's based on an altered reality that began in 1968, unfortunately the USA isn't any better for it.
Zach Snyder did his best with the film version that came out in 03/2009. He was bound to fail, there's too much material to be covered in a 2.5 hour film. Now it's getting the proper format, it could be HBO's most talked about show since Game of Thrones first aired, a worthy replacement. The intro is ingenious featuring both Bass Reeves (the real Lone Ranger) and Drake. HBO's passing nod to Zac Snyder, "thank you for your effort, we'll take it from here". The show runner is Damon Lindelof who previously worked on Lost and The Leftovers. From what I saw of the first episode, HBO is going to take it's time with the material, there's a lot to cover.
As for the above reference, captain America appears in both the MCU and DCU. Except that in Watchmen he is a White Supremacist...Kevin Fiege won't be happy about this.
