I think he was just being a dick, and knew he could write me a ticket that i would have to waste my time fighting if i didn't want to pay it. It was mid-day, the traffic was light, and i wasn't causing any back up behind me...parking police get harrased on a daily basis, and I think they enjoy "giving it back" by overstepping their authority...guess what happens if he writes me a ticket when i'm doing nothing wrong? Over a year later when i finally get my court appearence...he shows up with overtime pay, and says i was in the wrong...how can i prove i wasn't? There is literally no way for him to get in trouble for writing a false ticket...
You were wrong. Take a picture of the sign. Take a look at it. Then take the trouble to learn what our laws are. Then pay the fine.

I wasn't beligerent at all, I just told him i wasn't moving because i wasn't breaking any laws...and yes i was argumentative...what's wrong with standing up for your rights? Booted and towed? Do they even have boots in Toronto? And you can't tow a vehicle when someones inside it
You were standing up for a right you don't have. Don't come down on someone for doing their job.

You were being the dick.

He was being a dick! There was NO TRAFFIC whatsoever around...it wasn't rush hour and i wasn't holding up ANY traffic behind me....anyone who isn't a dick, would have realized i would be there for a minute or two and walk away...if i was holding up traffic then yeah, tell me to move...just another example of a "toy cop" overstepping his authority....couldn't pass the fitness test so he gets stuck writing parking tickets
Can't believe you are so slow. Roads are for driving, not parking. You have no right to choose to stop your vehicle on any roadway except as provided for by laws and bylaws. Although that's all for the purpose of trafficflow, it doesn't take someone else being held up for you to be in the wrong. That began the moment you put your phony 'need' to stop and wait for your passenger ahead of everyone else.

Why wasn't your friend already waiting and why didn't you just go around the block?

The only dick in the story was the guy illegally stopped. With his flashers on to signal everyone else to just go around.

parking is defined , as stopping a vehical on a roadway, with the exception of short periods for dropping off or picking up. That is actually the legal definition. If you are stopped in a no parking zone for the purpose of dropping something off or picking someone up you are not parking unless the parking cop can prove you were there for an extended period. Ten minutes is the acceptred maximum in most places

Just seeing your attitude here tells me you were argumentative and belligerent with the officer. I say you are lucky you were not booted and towed.
In Canada, you are not required to be subservient to authority.

Well stated, but because there seems to be a certain denseness that must be penetrated before the issue subsides: In practical legal terms, this means you must be actually in the act of taking on or discharging passengers or cargo in order to be in compliance with no stopping or no standing respectively. Waiting for your passenger to enter or leave the building, taking a parcel into the building or going in to fetch one have all been found to be breaches. The best you can hope fo,r at such a moment, is an understanding and sympathetic enforcer. Don't let her/him see "overweight, officious, overpaid belligerent dick" in your eyes.

Agreed. You can just hear the self entitlement coming off OP's post.

That being said I'd check with parking enforcement in a month to see if a ticket was filed against the license plates. Parking enforcement is not legally required to deliver the ticket to you for an offence.
I drove away from a ticket cop as he was about to put a $100 TICKET under my wiper he yelled at me but I just kept driving and never got a ticket in the mail SO I THINK YOU MAY BE WRONG HERE

He is not a real cop so I am under no obligation to stay as he has no power of arrest and committed no crime in driving away

In any event the OP was in the NO parking zone so was committing no offence as he was standing

... "No Standing" ... "No Stopping between 3-6" ... "No Parking" zone, with my flasher's on, waiting 2 mins for my friend to come out....

A fat slob of a parking cop waddles up ...
Maybe I'm from too small of a town, but I find your story completely laughable. Firstly, you actually know and care about the difference between No Standing, No Stopping, and No Parking. In a small town the rules are much simpler:

No Parking - you shouldn't park there.
No Stopping - You really shouldn't park there.
No Standing - Don't even walk there!!!

The second thing I'm laughing at, coming from a small town is: Toronto has fat parking cops. Everywhere else these guys are in shape. They spend all day walking around giving out tickets. In Toronto the parking cops just sit and wait for idiots to pull up? How many parking cops do you have to have for one to arrive within 2 minutes???

Is this story supposed to be for real? Does Toronto actually have that many parking cops?
