Just had a venture van,2002 done, under warranty. There is a new part number,it was a faulty gasket? Have been told GM will replace this full cost, but you need to have patience as they will try and avoid telling you this at the beginning. They finally admitted that they have a problem, and they will not offer you any insight,be patient, and it will be covered. They will offer a parts only deal, again stick to your guns.

I have a 97 buick le sabre with the 3800 engine and approx 135000 km on it. I am the second owner and do not believe anything has been done to it in reguard to this manifold problem. Lickrolaine, does this mean GM will replace the gaskets on my car if I go in. Would like to know. I have a friend who is a mecanic, and his own shop, so I'm going to ask him about this.

When it comes to a GM dealership, they are a bunch of fu*king crooks. I had an 87 buick before this one, and they wanted over $3000 to replace the timing gears, chain, 6 pushrods and exhaust valves. The gear broke that's why the valves and rods were needed. I towed it from Oshawa to R. Hill and had the repairs done for less than $1500.

One of the most overlooked, maintenace things on your gtp is a simple as a tire rotation, the tires on your gtp are about 196.00 each. Most dealers do not rotate the tires when you follow your maintenance schedule. When that tire is not rotated your average life expectancy is only about 45-50,000 kms. If the are rotated you will get easily 80,000. Alexa if your want more info pm me.... good luck
huh???
You mean buy a maintenence package right? with check this check that.... Then all u get is oil change and tire rotation. So the difference is about 50 bux. Now if you rotate every 12000 kms like they say you will spend a total of say 6 times *$50 equals minimum $300 plus taxes $360 altogether. So that is almost the price of 2 new tires.

Now if you dont rotate you will have 2 front worn tires at 50.000 the earliest while the back will still have 60% left in them since they dont wear the same as fronts.
And yes i work for a dealership. I am a tech...

$1.2 billion class action lawsuit filed against General Motors
April 25, 2006 - 12:49 pm
By: Anne Winstanley

A $1.2-billion class action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors of Canada Limited and General Motors Corporation.

The suit alleges the carmaker used a defective engine part on various Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiacs in the 1995-2003 model years.

The suit claims GM used a defective intake manifold gasket. Colin Stevenson, a partner at Stevensons LLP in Toronto, tells 680 News the part was made of plastic and degraded prematurely, causing the coolant to leak.

He says the problem is that "the coolant can cause serious problems once it escapes. In some cases the engines overheat and seize completely. The vehicles often need complete engine replacements at considerable expense to the owners."

The statement of claim notes that General Motors introduced a new gasket in 2004 but General Motors still refuses to acknowledge the general defect in the pre-existing gaskets.

The suit estimates 400,000 vehicles are affected in Canada. An average claim of $3,000 makes the claim worth $1,200,000,000. Any Canadians concerned about their GM vehicle are encouraged to visit www.classproceedings.ca, and fill out and remit the questionnaire.

The vehicles include those listed below:

1995-1997 Buick Riviera
1995-1998/2000-2003 Buick LeSabre

Fear not!

I hear GM has remedied the problem by having a affiliate company in china build their engines for them now!
