Both Walmart and Future Shop match other stores' advertised products.
I tried that with the Target store in town and they said they dont match prices. The same tv was 150 more there.Got online again this morning and noticed circuit city has the same tv for 5 dollars more than walmart and they have them in stock. I better get my ass there today since the Friday after Thanksgiving is a zoo no matter where you go to buy something.Does anybody here own the Panasonic TH-42PX60U and if you do , are you satisfied with it?

We don't have Target stores so you obviously don't live in Canada. The location under your name says Chicago so does that mean you live there. Sucks to be you if you do live there. I've driven through Chicago and what a friggin nightmare.

Future shop was Canadian until Best Buy bought them but their policy of matching someone elses lowest price remains.

I have been in the market for a new tv and finally decided on the make and model i want. I shop around online and find that walmart is the cheapest of all. I head out to my local walmart after the website says it is in stock tell the guy which one i want and he says we dont have any. He checks his little inventory gun and tells me the other walmart across town has 2. I drive over there the salesman te;lls me we dont have any either and they never had any. Now, i am pissed, the guy says we can order you one but it will take 3 weeks to get it. I ask him to check other stores and see if they will transfer one from another store he says walmart doesnt do that but he will call themand have them hold it for me if I drive over there and pick it up. I said screw that im not driving 50 miles with a 1500 plasma in the back of my truck. Walmart can suck my dick. How did they ever get to be the worlds largest retailer?
did you wear a tuxedo when you went into the store? thats the only way they will serve you. No shirt, no shoes, no tux, no service

Walmart is really good at what they do, but if you go outside of the comfort zone, they are not. If you want to go somewhere, and buy something simple, like motor oil or paper towels, they are very good. For something as complex as finding a specific TV and holding it, you are stretching their capabilities.
Actually, the business model that allowed Walmart to gain an edge and ultimately destroy they competition was their attention to inventory.
They were the front runners in globalizing their inventory system so that the entire organization can find out the inventory of any item at any store with a click of a button. Once an item is down to the lower numbers, the information is then sent to one of the b2b web partners which automatically packs and ships more of that product to that store to keep the inventory up. Other stores have followed since but Walmart perfected it. Everything is automated.
The only thing that is not is the actual human count of inventory. Of course employees like to steal. Many items will come up as "in" when in fact they've been stolen. Many items come up as "out" but if you went to the back of the warehouse, they are right there. Somebody has either made a mistake in scanning for inventory or did it on purpose so they can take it home at the end of the day.
Where Walmart shines is their cuthroat bargaining with suppliers. They want to have the same products as everyone else but at much cheaper prices. Not a bad idea in theory. But in a marketplace that is driven by cost of materials and perceived value, there is only so much you can drop before the materials go on the chopping block. Hence, cheaper products that break down easy. The product has the same outside packaging but will have a different product code. As well the components used to make said product will undoubtedly be of lesser quality.
In a world of consumerism, it's mind boggling that more people don't know this information. Become educated about what you buy. You may want to spend that extra few hundred bucks.
Cheers.

You are speaking of which you obviously know little of.
There are Target gas stations and stores across Canada. Not many, but a few.
There is even one in Southern Ontario in the fruit belt. Small town of Fonthill or Pelham, I have no fucking clue which it is anymore, has a gas station beside a restaraunt. Gas station and store is called Target. I've seen the logo, it's the same.

I drive through this area frequently in the summertime. Nice scenery and Lookout golf course is there as well.

Future Shop also offers lowest pricing. But, next time you go in there, look for an item that is not as low as something you saw somewhere else. The product will be identical but the product name and product code will be different. Very rarely will they bend and give you a discount based on that. Business is sneaky thing.

I have never seen a target store in Ontario and don't know about the rest of Canada. I do know where Fonthill is but haven't been through there in years. I know Target is big in the US but didn't know they had any here.

Walmart's return policy is great. I have worn shoes then returned them. Also used a vacuum cleaner for a weekend then returned it. No questions asked. I know it's not "moral" but neither is WalMart according to some people.

I love Wal Mart, there can be some screw ups but its a great money maker.

Gotta love Capitalism!!!!!
The problem I have with Walmart is there have been too many horror stories with the products they sell. A friend of mine is a low income family. So he goes to Walmart to outfit his kids. After one wash, everything he bought fell apart. He can't afford to be paying for disposable product. Capitalism is the same policy that breeds " buyer beware". Is it so wrong to ask that the products we buy have at least some kind of quality standard ? I like making money as well but there's a limit to everything. Walmart sucks !

BS

If that was the case Walmart wouldn't be as successful as it has become. If they are marketing cheap products which fall apart no one will go back. I would say that your friends case is the exception to the norm.
Personally, I think Walmart is good. For example a few months back I was looking for a particular furniture item. I went into Zellers and found an item I liked but of course none left in stock. Took me 5 min. to find a customer service rep and asked them to check the back. None left in stock. Well can you call another store I ask. No, she replied, we don't do that. You'll have to call. So they gave me 2 other stores #'s I called them on my cell phone and got little co-operation, either because the person answering the phone couldn't speak english or were just too lazy to check. So I said f this I'll go to Walmart. Found the item I was looking for (plenty in stock and Made in Canada), quality superior than Zellers product, and it was marginally higher in price. Paid and was out of there in 10 min. Since that time I've bought about $300-$400 worth of stuff at Walmart which would have cost me at least 25% more if I had bought it at the Bay or Sears.

Bay and Sears suck more ass than Walmart. "Normal" prices are a ripoff, that's why they have 40% off all the time. If there is something you want, bets are the shelves will be empty, and good luck trying to find anyone to help you. Most departments look like a bomb hit them at the end of the day.

That isn't walmart's fault, that's your friend's for not taking the items back and demanding replacements or a refund.

This reminds me of some Work Kneepads I bought at Homo Depot. The seam split on one of them within a week of purchasing them. I took em back to the depot and the store manager was saying "well, we can't take em back, they're worn" I said "I don't want to return them, I want a replacement pair because it states on the box: 1 year unconditional warranty, please return to point of purchase for any warranty ...blah blah blah" he was "no way" I said, wait a minute, I buy a product that is guaranteed for a year, the seam splits within a week, and YOU won't stand by your product"??? Eventually he gave in and I got another pair, but when you are right, you're right and should never take no for an answer....

I can't figure it out, it is not like Home Depot won't get their money back from the manufacturer as it wasn't their brand....

And another thing: Does anyone REALLY expect a $1.99 t-shirt to last as long as a $20.00 t-shirt? Come on, you only get what you pay for and like sp's, if you want poor quality, you pay a low price. if you want high quality (typically) you pay a higher price. EOS.

ANother example: I bought some flannel work shirts at Zellers. I paid like $8.00 a piece for them. Well after the first washing they shrunk 2 sizes. Did I complain? Hell no, because I didn't pay diddly for them. If I had paid $29.00 (like ones that sell at Marks Work Wearhouse) then I'd bitch but not at 1.3 the price. I just know now to buy XXL then when I wash em they will fit perfect LOL.

As for service, if you want exceptional handhold, kiss my ass, wash my feet, professional customer service, go to bay bloor radio and buy your plasma. That kind of service comes at a price and you will pay for it. To expect that kind of service from someone making minimal wage, with no A/V knowledge whatsoever is ludicrous....

This also goes for the environment: I shop at Sloblaws and pay a little more than No Frills. Why? Well at Sloblaws I don't have hordes of kids running around everywhere and line ups to the back of the store. Coupled with the fact that the stores are cleaner and neater and well laid out, that is worth the extra 2 bucks. Plus I can be in and out in 15 minutes...

In your head
Walmart doesn't manages their own inventory. They rely on the suppliers to do that.
So, if the shelfs don't stay filled with merchandise, you can looses your shelf space and they move on.
By keeping little or no inventory, they keep their overhead down, which allows them to offer lower prices.
However, especially in electronics, you won't always get the top quality supplier. Does it really matter? I don't think so, with the speed that inovation works in electronics, the newest gadget becomes outdated quickly. Remember VHS tapes? The CD's and now blueray? and then....what. All within 20 years.

I drove across the I80 past lower Chicago last month. I waited for 45 minutes in a really painful line to get to one of the few toll boths that were open on the toll stretch. Due to constuction the area was a mess with a lot of the toll booths blocked off. After finally getting to the wicket and paying my $.60 I couldn't help but wonder that as a goodwill gesture they should just open it up and forego the tolls during the roadwork. Its one of those customer service type things that just wouldn't occur to them I suppose.
