Again, if the company policy is blatantly illegal....
no one told her that she did it wrong or to not call the cops. she was told tell the manager and let the manager handle it. do you want to shop at a store where the employees follow you around calling the cops and ignore everything the boss tells them to do.

I bet the poor dog appreciated it!

Waiting for "The Wal Mart Manager" and the EQUALLY inept and disinterested police to show up, what, maybe a half hour later?

Hot Dog + Chain of Command = Dead Dog
Thank you (seriously) for reducing this story to the basic element and then stating the obvious.

What would happen if a person smashed open the window of a car/truck to get air to the dog (believing the animal was in imminent danger).

In the case of someone committing a crime I want any citizen who sees it calling the police. Management aren't the police and should butt out. The manager should not be trying to obstruct justice.

Dealing with crime is the job of the police not some pimple faced idiot who got promoted to supervisor at Walmart.

"If you see a crime in progress do not call 911. Instead make an appointment to meet with your supervisor and fill out form 27b-6."

Not going to fly.

well that is a totally different thing altogether. if the employee catches someone committing a crime or assaulting someone else then i am sure the policy is something different. we are not talking about someone committing a crime though.

if you owned a store would you instruct your employees to call the cops every time someone did something suspicious or that they perceived to be suspicious ? would you be okay if you told your employees to do something and they said no thanks ?

your store would be in shambles and no one would shop there fairly quick.

Yes we are talking about someone committing a crime. That is exactly what we are talking about. Leaving a dog locked in a hot car is criminal.

We are talking about a manager who fired an employee for insisting that she would report crimes to the police rather than to management.

There was another incident at the same Wal-Mart a few weeks before this happened. An employee saw a customer leave his dog in his vehicle, and he tried to educate him on the dangers of doing that. The customer ignored him, he went to manager and reported it. Manager said that they would keep an eye on the car and the dog. Employee asked if he could call 911, manager said no your on company time. So he said he would clock out and call, manager said no. The employee gave his 2 weeks notice the day before this happened. The day after this incident he was called in and said he would be paid for his scheduled shifts but he was no longer needed. I think Wal-Mart managers need retraining and education classes.

i see animal in distress laws. i don't see anything about dogs being left in cars laws. the law that i am reading says that there has to be a heat advisory in effect for it to be considered hot.

so now it is on you to show me where the cops went to his house afterward and gave him a fine or arrested him and took his dog away. they took his plate number right ? he should be easy to find and then charged, fined, arrested and his dog taken to a safe place.

we are talking about a manager that told an employee to do something and the employee saying no. we are talking about an employee that has done this in the past and lipped off to customers several times in the past. how long would you put up with an employee giving your customers/clients attitude ?

i saw this same story and a person who works as management at a walmart said they were liar since walmart doesn't pay out for time not worked under any circumstance. this was in the comments section on one of the links there were posted in the other thread.

"Wilfully causes, or permits to be caused, unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury to an animal"

we are talking about a manager that told an employee to do something and the employee saying no.
Your manager cannot order you to commit fraud either. You can say no when the request is illegal.

and that law is only in effect on days with heat warnings. careful editing and leaving parts out doesn't make it more true.

That is in the criminal code and no such exemption is there. Sections 445 and 446.
i was reading it from the spca ottawa website. so if he broke the law and she called the cops show me the follow up story where he was fined, charged, arrested and had his dog taken away.

Try reading from the criminal code instead.

You troll claim that it is not criminal unless the cops went to his house will be ignored. Quit trolling.

the spca site quoted the law from the criminal code. just because you lost and got nothing left to add doesn't mean i am trolling. it just means you got nothing left to add and think calling someone a troll will win you the argument.

what you are claiming now is that the guy broke the law, the cops were called and he got away with breaking the law and zero consequences and that the store (walmart) told their employees to ignore the law and still nothing has come of it.

i just want to be clear is all.

so he broke the law and the cops did nothing and now walmart is breaking the law and the cops are doing nothing. i want to move to this town where the cops do nothing and you can get away with anything you want.
