I drove the 2006 or 2007 VW it had the big V8 and it drove like a dream. The interior was top notch and very fuctional. The seats were extremely comfortable on a long hwy trip. Also plenty of space for the rear seat passengers.

Heads up, the Cayenne sucks balls in the snow. Its tires are way too wide; the stock rubber is practically useless with an inch of snow on the ground.
That's why SNOW tires were invented. Anyone that drives any suv around in the snow on the "stock rubber" is a moron.

You miss my point. With most SUVs (even the X5), you can get by in the city on stock three-seasons. With the Cayenne, you simply cannot.

Of course, snows are better, and I have them for all my cars.
No, I didn't miss your point. I suppose it would depend if the Cayenne was fitted with the same "three season" tires.

Doesnt matter what kind of all season tires you have.

Live in canada = need snow tires

There is no ways around it, unless you are retired and have no need to leave the house when snowing. Even if they are just cheap no name snows, its worth the increase driving benefits and safety of your life for the couple hundred bucks. I would never in my life try driving a winter without snow tires no matter what vehicle I own, but then again I do alot of driving.

They're the same car! The architecture is the same -- the only difference is that porsche has added more HP to the engine (and different sheet metal exterior).

joint venture SUV

VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne is a joint venture SUV plant between Volkswagen Audi Group and Porsche Ag. The product is made in a factory in Slovakia .
Porsche never build a V8 engine so they use the same engine like Touareg, a V8 from Audi A8 (first seen10 years ago). or a V6 from VW Passat.
So... no Porsche boxer sporty engine, no german quality body and no 4X4 performance.

It is a good show pony anyway :D

I work with VW for the last 5 years. Both vehicles have had some major issues in the past and still have problems today.
If your looking for value the VW is the way to go. If you want a few more toys and a image drop the extra money for the Porche.
I am not sure what Porches warranty is but VW has a 4y/80k warranty which is pretty good.
For those wondering about snow tires. It looks like Ontario is going to make it manditory in either 2010-11 to have snow tires on ALL cars, trucks and SUV's

I know of two jetta that cost 5000.00 dollars each in three years on repairs . Both cars are in 2003 range . Maybe just two bad ones but enough to make a person think twice about buying a Volkswagen.
