Is it any good?
I was thinking of using it to shrink down the 'C' partition with Vista on it.
It recommends how far you can shrink C down. When you do this, is another partition then created? I've never used it and was curious about what it does.
Right now I have 4 partitions, C, D (a small Vista rec part) then the Linux partiton and a small linux 'swap file' partition. The Vista tool says I can shrink the C drive down from 130GB to 90GB which would free up 40GB for storage which I assume will be a newly created partiton.
Is this correct?

Well, the 'shrink' option in Vista will let you shrink the selected partition and will then create an space. You then have to tell the system what to do with the space, like 'create simple partion', to which you would then assign a drive letter and format it with the proper file system format.

If you're are going to use this space for storage of windows based data files, why bother with a partion at all. These sizes just seem small given the size of todays files. Why not just invest in another hard drive. I recently added 500 GB SATA II for only $80 and that's the partition where I store my files.

I do have an ext HDD for backup and storage.

I just wanted to shrink the 'C' Vista partition down to ~70-80GB then use the new space for storage for both Vista & linux. Been doing this with my desktop for over a year with no problems. Plus when Vista gets a defrag it's quicker defragging the smaller partition. I'm hoping after a fresh defrag Vista will be able to free up more space for shrinkage than 40GB but this is the first time playing around with this Vista partitioning tool and I don't want to mess up the Vista partition by chopping off too much.
