In a house somewhere
I have always said there is really not much for a visitor to do in Toronto. There are a lot of restaurants, yes. There are lots of places to eat. Then walk, stroll, visit various communities. But that exactly proves my point. I have been to Munich. Tons of museums. Massive garden in the middle of the city. Subways all over the place. Been to Paris once. Lots of things to do. But Toronto? The CN tower (too expensive and not that much of a big deal),the zoo (too far away, which is near me in the burbs), AGO (difficult to get to on a good day), ROM (any of great museums out there?). The island would be a great place to develop. But the islanders want to keep it for themselves and probably go back to the horse and buggy days. There are other places outside of Toronto, to be sure, such as Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake, Canada's Wonderland, etc. But within Toronto the city itself, if you are staying downtown as a visitor, there is not much within walking distance.

BUT, I could be wrong!!

From a tourist standpoint, a lot of people neglect their own city. The museums, galleries, zoos etc., would close down if not for the tourists, who will probably never go to their own museums, galleries, zoos. Most of my travels allow very little time to play tourist (but occasionally some time for hobbying). The little bit that I have been able to do in Toronto consisted of driving the rental car aimlessly into and around downtown, using CN tower as a landmark. Saw a lot of things I would like to take the time to explore someday. Take them to one of the neighborhoods. Someplace with off-the-wall bistros and eclectic shops. Eat some ice cream and just stroll the storefronts. Afterwards take them to a good restaurant, something that offers an experience in addition to the food. Maybe Moroccan, or some middle eastern place where you take off your shoes and sit on the floor.

Ideally, try to minimize the travel time. Too often people try to see everything in a few hours (like I did) and they end up spending 4 hours driving and 30 minutes enjoying the trip.

Then after dinner book them a couples massage...:D

I always take my out-of-town guests to Kensington Market and downtown Chinatown. Grossman's Tavern.
