That "too many minutes" line was Butch Carter interviewd the day before the trade. It sounds like a simple excuse to me. Of course Butch is going to back up Vince as it was by far the highlite of his career.

Vince has always had the huge ego but has never showed the attitude or work ethic. He proudly admits to not working out in the summer and shows zero leadership skills. His demands on the club were a distraction to the other playerson and off the court and his need to be #1 caused hs teammates to stand around and wait.

Word today is that VC went so far as to tip the sonics as to what play they were running. Shows a lot of class to me.

p.s. Dr. J was a great player but whould have been the most inexperienced GM ever. Can't see that as a good way to build the club.

You are missing my point. again and again. The problem with Babcock is not getting rid of VC. It is what he got in return.

Babcosk is now the laughing stock among his peers in the league. Read this, young man:

If you have cancer you treat it how you can (ie. chemo). But once it stops responding in a positive way you cut it off.
His presence serves as a detrement to the team and broughtit down. hence, get rid of him the sooner the better.

And you are missing my point, again and again, and again and again. You have this misconception that VC is actually worth something. He is NOT!!!

We will just have to see. If Jason Kidd is healthy and Vince is healthy and Jefferson is healthy, then SHOWTIME just moved to JERSEY.

I'm as pissed off with the Vince situation as the next guy but it is not all Vince's fault AT ALL. Coaching, Management, player selection everything. It is rarely ever one thing in life.

If Isiah stayed in Toronto(which was ownership's fault), McGrady would still be here...don't know if Vince would have resulted but he would have been here...and there could have been a dynasty here.

Plenty of places to point the finger here in T.O.

Kwazy totally agree. But that is an entirely differnet point. There are lots of probs with this franchise. I am not a BB expert so I don't know how to fix it.

most of you talk here about how little the raps got, how they could have gotten more. who knows. what is for sure, is that the vince that the raps had up until friday, was a guy who was lackadaisical, inconsistent, and not healthy. rumours abound that potential trading partners were scared off by vince's history of injuries. i think vince has major problems with his knees, mainly, them being arthritic. have you noticed the explosive VC of years gone by, shows up less and less? he doesnt jump as easily and gracefully as he once did. and if vince loses his athleticism, then really, what does he have? he is not a great defender, not a team leader, doesnt possess a great jump shot, or is a consistent three-point shooter. without his "hops" and his flash, he really is just another player. dont think for a moment, other teams have not noticed it. why would they give up star players for a chump with a bum knee? would you? i think rob babcock did pretty well, under the circumstances.

it is now time for a guy like mo pete, and rafer alston, to step up. CB is coming into his own. the two williams boys will really help up front, and on the boards.

as for "ZO", fuck the bastard. he wont come here? so the raps have to pay him millions to buy him out, so that he can sign with the miami heat, and get paid there as well, and help beat the raps? unreal. if it was me, he would either shut up and play here, or he could sit up in the press box for the next two years. but the raps will cower to him, and buy him out. make a stand raps, show some grapefruits here. i believe, even if the raps buy him out, his salary will still count against the raps cap. can anyone confirm or deny this?

What about a conditional buy out? I don't know how these things work but couldn't the Raps buy out Zo but on the condition that if he signs with another team the Raps get this money back?

I just read the toronto star article interviewing Carter post trade http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Co...054&call_pageid=968867503640&col=970081593064
and a few things seemed clear to me.

1) The resignings of JYD, Alvin, and Antonio were due to Vince's wishes as was the attempt to get a big man (Olijawan).

"We always talked about building a championship team," he said. "Well, you need a core group there and for years I was trying to just keep the guys we had from 2000 there to have that core group."

2) Carter has always felt that the only way for the team to succeed is through him.

"It's always tough when people take their shots," he said. "It's kind of like, they leave you on an island by yourself and say, hey, good luck, when you get back, we're with you but when you're out there, you're by yourself."

3) His talk is far different from his actions.

"I have nothing to prove," said Carter, who is aiming at a Dec. 27 return from a strained Achilles tendon he suffered two weeks ago. "I'm not trying to go out here and disrupt what's going on, I can prove it by going out and playing hard, playing within what they're asking and their style, and all of that will take care of itself."

My conclusion is that in an effort to appease Vince (and his mom), the raptors made a bunch of moves that effectively set the team back, blowing cash on some overvalued signings that then dissapeared of the face of the basketball world. Even t-Mac's departure could be blamed partly on vince (and the media) not willing to share the spotlight. Both Vince and McGrady have a need to be the man and run the show. The result is that the raptors were in an impossible situation trying to dump some big money low(er) talent players who were not happy playing with vince and setting back the franchise's development by a few years.

Again and again, you have demonstrated that you are a person whose decision is driven by emotion, a receipe for failure .

Jalen Rose is a class act.....

When Jalen Rose gets hits the papers its far different from Carter headlines. He is always emotional about playing. He doesn't get to start and that bothers him. But he comes off the bench and plays hard. Jalen has been going to the bucket as of late and it looks good. He gets to the line and he hits his foul shots. I think if the TEAM plays better he will even take fewer ill advised shots.
Even though he thinks his so called demotion is a step towards leaving, it is obviously making the team better.

He dressed all in black yesterday as gesture of mourning. Well all that shows is that he would be sad to leave and sad to have been domoted.............ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT KIND OF EMOTION. He is not at the peak of his game, but I would be very sad to see him go!!!!!!!!!

The name in front of the jersey will always be more important than the name in the back.

Very few players, in any sport are exempt from this rule - and in the NBA, right now; there's maybe 6 or 7 guys. Carter and Rose are not in that very short list of 6 or 7.

Good trade my ass. Nets will make the playoffs and Craptors won't. Vinsanity will go crazy, like McGrady did once he left T.O.

We traded a All Star for a couple of nobody's and draft picks.

Now they are talking about getting rid of Rose and Marshall, why would I pay to see a Raptor game.?

I hate Vince Carter. Half Amazing, Half a Heart, Half an Effort. I'm glad he's taking his act elsewhere and glad we got 2 first round picks for him.

It will be very easy to evaluate any trade that involves Donyell Marshall. This guy is a true asset with real skills. He shoots, rebounds and defends better than any other Raptor....EVER!

and you never hear a squack out of him.

I do not see ANY reason to trade Donyell Marshall. Teams should be lining if we give any real indication that he is on the trading block.

But will Donyell want to stay or take a paycut to play for a contender? Imagine him getting passes from Shaq or Duncan and draining open jumpers. The danger is the Raptors lose him at the end of the season and get nothing in return.

Raps won't likely have the available money to re-sign Marshall to what he'd get in the open market. He'll also likely want a 4 year deal...and I wouldn't give that to him. Don't get me wrong, I love Marshall's game but I'd rather we deal him now, get a good return on him while his value is high...and keep re-building for next year and the year after.

How many NBA players are really effective at 33 and over? Marshall is going to be 31 next year. So I couldn't justify a long term contract at the $$$ he'd command.

Package him up to dump Rose's salary and/or get a good young player and/or pick(s) in return.

If this team can get out from Rose's contract a year ealier, plus acquire another 1st round we'd have 6 1st round picks in 2 years and the cap room(when combined with other contracts ending) to sign a couple impact players. All those 1st round picks could also be used to trade up in the drafts and get significant young players. All that could potentially mean a team that competes for 6-8 years consistently...this is what I hope Babcock is doing...

I hope so too but I fear to get rid of Rose we are going to have to take something almost as undesirable back, regardless of Marshall being part of the deal or not.
