It is a plate that vibrates quickly that you stand on while doing an exercise. The idea is the vibrations put a small load to your 3 types of muscles but it does it many times per second and all that load adds up.

3 muscles types : slow, fast, reflex

Do theses machines really work or are they a ripoff?

I assumed rip off but after watching vids on YouTube, that are not selling a vibration machine, that swear the machine is valid I wonder if it really does work and you get max workout in least time and effort.

Sounds too good to be true.

^It's ineffective the same way a Shake-weight doesn't give you a good arm workout.

Why do you think so?

Shake weight may be a gimmick, I do not know, but it is not the same as vibration plates

As well, vibration plates have been around for decades. So, there must be strong evidence by now if they work or not.

I'd think that their being around so long without having much in the way of evidence supporting them says a lot.

Probably better than nothing but lots of other options that have better backing.

++++

I also fear the vibrations affect on my joints, brain, spine , organs etc

Cannot wait until they come out with an exercise free way to get into shape LOL.

They will . As science learns more about the body, they will figure out how to imitate nature with science and you do nothing as your body becomes stronger
IMHO, banning drugs in sport is the wrong way to go. All these athletes are willing to be guinia pigs so science can learn from them for the benefit of humanity so I say give them the drugs.

^I've seen the vibration plates on German shopping shows (I watch because the presenters are hot). The plates don't move intensely enough to cause damage.

And there are various coffee/ginseng extract fat burner pills. They do work but take a toll on your liver, and don't build muscle.

I do not own one but tried it at a club

I gained flexibility with various recommended stretches

As to whether I can attribute that to the machine or not I cannot say but you do not just stand on it you have to do the exercises

I never lost weight and found their claims to be exaggerated
