Vibrating razor handles. Is it a gimic or does it really improve your shave?

Some of the new razors come with 5 blades and some come with a battery powered vibrating handle. Does the vibrator really improve the shave?

It's a gimic.

Though the 5 blade super expensive blade does work pretty good.

Only thing I found different with the vibrating blades was they do seem to give a more comfortable shave for longer hairs if you haven't shaved for a couple of days. But it makes no difference for everyday shaving.

I am willing to swear that the power gilette is better than the non-powered kind. I love it.

I was happy with two blades - do I really need 5?

Maybe the vibrating blades help your GF enjoy the shave a bit more.

The vibrating razor is a scam, but the multiple blades do help yet at what cost. The extra sharpness is gone quicker and the multiple blades cost more.

I used vibrating razors for years until it just becomes too expensive so, i went back to regular blades and I really haven't notice a difference, just the extra money in my pocket now.

I think it's mostly a gimmick, IMO definitely not worth the extra money. But shaving is a highly individual thing. Personally I have been prefering Shick Extreem 3-blades disposables for several years, the way it's flexible blades follow the contour of the jaw really works for me and the blade life is pretty good.

The 4 & 5 blade ones make a great initia impression with the amount of hair they remove on the first stroke, especially if I haven't shaved for several days. But subsecquent shaves aren't as impressive and the peculiarities of my shave require multiple strokes at various angles so I end up using almsot as many strokes as with a 3 blade anyway. Blades themselves don;t seem to be as good as on the Shick.

Most days I'm lazy and I shave with an electric razor. I'm done in half the time and it's good enough. For those days when for some reason I want to be super smooth I'll shave with a blade, take my time, and get it done right.

If I haven't shaved for a couple of days and I want a blade-close cut I'll run the trimmer on the electric over my face first to clear out the long hairs and then let the blade to the fine touches. No need for any fancy vibrating handle.

All that said it's a pretty rare day when I care about shaving close enough that I'm unhappy with the electric results.

I never tried the vibrating handle thinking that it was probably a gimick. However the Gillette Fusion (non-powered) is probably the best shave I've ever had. Yes, the blades are expensive but the shave quality is excellent and they also last a long time (approx 3 months for me).

I recently tried their Pro-Glide blades which are even more expensive. I noticed a little better shave in the beginning but I also noticed that they get dull much quicker. Now, I'm lucky to get 1 month per cartridge. I will try to buy the older Fusion blades if they are still available when I need to preplace them.

Supposedly, the Pro-Glide blades are thinner which might account for why the shave is a little better but they're not as durable.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with the Pro-Glide?

I have used the Gilette fusion since they came out, and was very pleased with the shave I got. One day, I saw the powered one on sale and bought one on impulse. I found it much better, and actually bought another one for travelling. Mind you, I work at home, and sometimes shaves only a couple of times a week, so it may be that the powered one is superior with longer hair.

I too use a straight razor. Does anyone else remember the Saturday Night Live skit when the trac 2 razor came out? They did an "ad" about the new TRAC 3... and the tag line was "Because you are all just that gullible..."
