Looks like Vernon Wells is having a "Joe Carter" type year in 2010 and will probably retire with "Joe Carter" type career stats. Yes? No?
Vernon is a much better fielder and much better base runner. Joe was a better hitter in the clutch (and smiled a lot more).Looks like Vernon Wells is having a "Joe Carter" type year in 2010 and will probably retire with "Joe Carter" type career stats. Yes? No?
Definitely better defensively and maybe slightly better runner but I think the B.A., HR's and RBI's will be very similar. However, Joe Carter has 2 World Series rings. I think Joe will fall just short of HOF material.Vernon is a much better fielder and much better base runner.
Not even close.I think Joe will fall just short of HOF material.
Isn't Joe's career stats just behind Jim Rice (HOFamer) and not that far behind Andre Dawson (HOFamer)? Maybe my memories of Joe far exceeds the reality.Joe Carter received 3.6% of the eligible vote, in his only year on the HOF induction ballot.
Yeah. He carried that team which was loaded with slackers like Alomar, Olerud, Molitor, White, Cone, Key, Morris, Winfield etc. Look at all the talent Wells has around him and he still can't win. However, Joe Carter has 2 World Series rings. I think Joe will fall just short of HOF material.
They are too busy bashing Cito every time the Jays lose. Some people just need to have a whipping boy. It doesn't really matter who, just as long as they have someone to criticise.I've noticed this years that the VW haters that were very vocal last year are really quiet this year. He was a bum, a slacker, and not worth the bucks they're paying him. Shhhhh they're scurrying around here somewhere. I know it.
Don't forget that VW only batted .260 last year. Currently, his B.A. is all the way up to .273. Of course, his 20 HR's exceeds the puny 15 he hit all last season.I've noticed this years that the VW haters that were very vocal last year are really quiet this year.
It still sends chills through me when I hear or see that clip.Game six of the 1993 World Series.
"Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! Blue Jays win it! The Blue Jays are World Series champions as Joe Carter hits a three-run home run in the ninth inning and the Blue Jays have repeated as World Series Champions! Touch 'em all, Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!"
—Blue Jays radio announcer Tom Cheek.
Advanced statistics show Joe Carter as merely an average hitting corner outfielder. His career OPS+ is 105 (average being 100, and of course traditionally defensive positions will have average less then 100) - the main reason for this is his very low On Base Percentage. The Jays had some good hitters 4-7 behind Carter -- there RBI totals were all negatively affected by having an on base drag like Carter in front of them.Isn't Joe's career stats just behind Jim Rice (HOFamer) and not that far behind Andre Dawson (HOFamer)?
