Hope the Nittany Lions do well this season.

Jo Pa till he dies on the sidelines!
As a lifelong Penn State fan I've only known one coach, JoePa. I hope this season is a huge success for the Lions and JoePa survives another year!

We're talking football, not basketball ...........
I was being facetious. I am hardcore Syracuse fan who attends about 6-8 games annually (basketball), but have given up on the football program. Although the basketball team has been disappointing as well, given the recent great recruits, and somewhat poor results.

While never one of the major powerhouses, it was a pretty good football program through the late 80's and 90's, peaking its head up now and then in to the top 10. I still remember Donovan McNabb making Michigan look foolish at the Big House, and Marvin Graves nearly leading Syracuse over the powerhouse Miami team in the early 90's... puking in the huddle because he was hit so hard during the game.

I still remember going to a Syracuse game a few years ago, and some five year old was going to buy an SU mini-football and his father told him.. "In our family we don't associate with the football program. Get a basketball instead"

Syracuse used to have a very respectable football program. Reminds me of programs like Clemson or Pitt, schools that used to strong programs, then die out for whatever reason. Even some of the heavyweights like Alabama and UCLA seem to have hit hard times.

Agreed. Way back to Jim Brown for sure. But the days of Jim and more recently Donovan McNabb are over in Syracuse. Hopefully they can recover soon but it doesn't look likely.

Also there is a new movie The Express coming out soon about real life Ernie Davis who was the first black player to win the heisman trophy one year after Jim Brown should have and both played for Syracuse. http://www.trailerspy.com/movie-trailers/video/641/the-express-trailer/

I'm a fan of the U of T (as in Univeristy of Toronto) football team though it hasn't come close to winning a single game for some 5 + years - just as I'm a fan of the Leafs though it hasn't come close to winning the Stanley for 40 years and counting. Both are miraculous achievements that all Toronians should be proud of.

What a loser , eh?
