When next you are in Cuba visit the rural areas and ghettos. Get pictures and share them.
He could come visit Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, etc and see all those things and not have to travel as far!....

I have been there half a dozen times, and have rented cars to get around in
rural areas and in Havana.
You don't see any obvious suffering. The people are well fed, proud of being cubans, and housing seem,
if not luxurious, adequate for a warm climate. Most own their houses, at least in the rural areas. I had
the pleasure of using their health care system last time I was there. I went to the nurses station in the hotel,
within 10 minutes a doctor was there. he was familiar with canadian medical practices, diagnosed me
and 10 minutes later a courier from the pharmacy was there with drugs. The pretty
nurse gave me an injection in my hindquarter and I left with the other drugs.
Damage: $150

Sounds like you have a very positive impression of Cuba.

One thing the embargo has cause is a virtual news blackout since 1963.

You are darn right. Canadians can travel wherever they want, and think whatever they want.
A rational person may conclude, it looks like you Canadians have MORE FREEDOMS than us yanks....

I wouldn't say that, clearly there are strict controls on people etc. But I would
say Cuba compares favourably with most other caribbean islands, Haiti,
Dominican republic, Jamaica, etc. and I think that is an accomplishment by
the Castro regime.

Whatever you think of the Castro regime, and I am sure there have been
human rights violations, it does appear that it cares about its people, in terms
of health care, education, food, and even hurricane preparedness, which is second to none.
