Hello all,

I've had Rogers cable internet forever and am pretty happy with the service. I've had the same modem for about 10 years now (Webstar). It's paired with a DLink wifi router.

To maximize my download speeds, apparently I have to upgrade to the newer docsis 3 combination modem/router......what are your experience with the newer modem/router?

thank you!

the only drawback to the combination modem/router is if it is located at cable ingress (in the basement), wireless signal may be weak upstairs. i've had a couple of bad ones over the past two years or so. the modem seems to fail intermittently. the only fix was a replacement. no issue once i called it in.

Similar story here. First one I received was flaky -- had to hard reset the modem/router to fix it. After a few annoying days of this I called in and had mine replaced. No problems since.

Same here, Larry and Cryptic are bang on. Mine is set in the basement, however, in this case even if my laptop was in the basement right beside it, I could not get any decent speeds while connected. I had to switch back to Cisco and have had no issues ever since.
