Sheiky - she's promoting herself into the ground. Trust me, the thread hurts her a hell of a lot more than it promotes her.

PUT IN BACK UP!

Supply & Demand (Since Sheiky Killed a Great Thread)

A woman who shalt remain nameless, in promoting a new board that we can't mention, commented that "you have to pay for the finer things in life".

While her status as one of the "finer things in life" remains up for debate, the fallacy of her statement bears exposure.

Yes, there is a high cost associated with "the finer things in life" because the consumer dictates such.

What this particular women is suggesting, however, is an artificial inflation of such costs via the creation of a pseudo-monopoly. Such a situation has nothing to do with the value of the goods in question. The owners of the 407 would certainly be proud...

Sadly, while she get good marks for her creative economic strategy, her understanding of both marketing and human nature is sadly lacking!

The ironic thing is that, unlike her friend's at T-Bull's board, most of the gentlemen here are willing to pay a premium for high quality experiences. What a shame her focus isn't on building a reputation for being worth her rates, as opposed to artificially trying to dictate what prices the market should bear.

I think there are quite a few lovely ladies on this board that prove the full phrase pretty well don't you?

Wow...what the hell were you thinking?

In case you think this is just the boys being boys, pray let me as an SP chime in.

Thanks for using an insulting tone that alienated everyone on one of the few SP friendly boards.

Thanks for giving ammunition to every moron out there who thinks, like you do, that prices should be 'fixed'. Higher or lower doesn't matter; fixing is bullshit.

Thanks for making me cringe with embarrassment that you have so little real knowlege of how to communicate with people when that, really, is what we do.

Thanks, pre-emptively for the bitchy reply that will only further reinforce points one and three.

Ophelia - no need to feel embarrassment for something Shandra wrote. Speaking for myself and my own exposure to the hobby, I know she does not represent the broadest viewpoint of the SP community at large.
That would be like me being ashamed for being Jewish just because of something Mel Gibson dreamed up....

Other than Ophelia , the silence from the other independents is deafening . I thought Shandra's post ( if serious ) was a huge insult to sp's who control their own pricing . It basically implies they don't know the worth of their services in their own market place . She obviously doesn't know that there are some pretty intelligent ladies out there .

The tone and decision to post here ( exactly the wrong spot for this ) was obviously illconceived and must bring into question the adviseability of association with this venture .

OK guys, let's all take a collective breath. Shandra is certainly entitled to her opinion. She may be flawed somewhat with her approch and belief but I am sure she is also getting more than a few private PMs saying; "You go girl!". For myself, price does play a factor to a limited degree. If I feel that a lady is worth what she charges (based on her reviews, looks and reputation) then I'm going to see her. If not, then I won't. That simple. Bottom line, it's up to each and every one of us to decide for ourselves what we are willing (and able) to pay for a lady we choose/want to see.

For the record, I have seen Shandra several times (and posted a positive review when she was at Lollipops) and can attest that she is well worth what she charges for her time. The only complaint that I recall about her was that she was tough to get a hold of at times but not anything about being overpriced. No shilling here guys, just trying to provide some balance to this thread.

Here
This same joke is simultaneously running on Tbills board, and judging by the sincere way in which it was started there, I have to guess it is legit and a serious attempt to counterbalance his mission to make the hobby more affordable to the average guy.

I do think we have found our Bizarro Tbill..... or T-boob as someone so eloquently stated.

Lets just assume for a moment that Miss Shandra is successful in fixing prices at $250/hr for all SPs. Do you suppose that the prettiest girl will get most of the business (since price is no longer a factor in booking)? Or perhaps the girls with the more favorable menu will get more clients (might as well get more for your money since price is no longer a factor)?

In reality, you will have the opposite of the intended effect. Girls will be pressured (by competition) to offer services that they otherwise would not want to provide, simply to keep up with the busiest providers. If they dont have the ability to use price as an incentive, they must rely strictly on looks and service.

However, in the event that this is a joke. ROFLMAO!

So this is NOT a joke?

For someone who has been around for 10 years I think Shandra knows very little about what is really going on in this industry as a whole. Also I think her 'rant' is just exactly that a RANT. One to many guys tried to negotiate her rates with her. In a way I don't blame her for being peeved or feeling disrespected if and when guys do that. Call and try to negotiate rates with her. I know I have stated several times on this board that I never buy anything 'retail' and always negotiate. I even do so in SCs and often get a reduced rate. But... I know better then to call a $300./hr SP and try to get a lower rate. And anyways why would I? IF I was a SP hobbyist and wanted only to pay a certain amount then I would call someone who is charging something closer to that amount. Which brings me to a point I wanted to make. This project Shandra is trying to start is doomed to failure just because of that. There will always be a certain 'element' of SPs in this industry that for a variety of reasons will have lower rates. She has no more chance of getting all SPs to raise their rates to a certain level then anyone else has in getting all SPs to lower their rates to a certain level. Just one last thing… re the comment that 10 years ago rates were $250. Everything does not always go up. (No pun intended) 10 years ago VCRs were $300. Now you can get them for $50.
