I have a World Phone with Bell. Can these phones be unlocked at all?

I am heading to Asia and would like to bring my BB with me.

I believe if you check around, these phones are unlocked and a local SIM can be inserted for voice, however the blackberry data functions will not work.

The blackberry functions will only work with the SIM that Bell Canada gives you ($$$$).

BTW, the GSM functions will not work in North America as it only has the overseas GSM bands (i.e. not a quad band GSM phone)

Thanks 69. Just to clarify, when you say that the GSM function won't work in NA, do you mean that I can't set it to GSM mode and have my phone work? I currently have it set to toggle between CDMA/GSM but to be quite honest, don't know if it ever switches to GSM signal.

One more question, do BB PIN require the Bell SIM?

Thanks for the advice.

The GSM portion won't work in NA. We use 850 and 1900 MHz GSM. Overseas uses 900 and 1800 Mhz GSM. Quad band GSM phones have all 4 bands and can be used anywhere. The Bell version only has the 900 and 1800 GSM bands so it will only work overseas. You are suppose to use CDMA in NA

Any BB functions on GSM needs a Bell SIM. There's info on the Bell SIM needed to connect to BB servers. A non-Bell SIM won't have this info, so only voice will work.
